Hello Everybody!, I am posting this message for Sergio Servadio, a good friend of mine and occasional contributor who at present has no access to this NG. If anyone has valuable information about Mr.Mengoni, and possibly a suggestion about how Sergio could contact him directly, please forward directly to <servadio@mail.df.unipi.it>. Thanks from us both Marina ______________________________________________________________________ ______ __ The other day I was talking with an acquaintence of mine in Osimo (Italy) and he mentioned this Italo-American, Mr. Mengoni, who supposedly should be a prominent figure in road racing, in the New York area I guess. I would cherish any piece of information about the gentleman and his activity as regards to cycling. Thank you Sergio Pisa -- MarinaV (44, MI, 0, 0, S) |

(Dorothy) "Oh Toto! Maybe Mr Mengoni can help me find my way to
criterium riches inna the united states!" (The tin man) And maybe he can give me a time trial bike. (The Lion) " And maybe a little more 'noive in them sprints." (The scarecrow) "I could always use a better team behind me." About Fred Mengoni The Mengoni Grand Prix is sponsored by Fred Mengoni, a former competitive cyclist from Italy who has played a key role in the development of bike racing in the US. He founded the GS Mengoni team with has included George Hincapie, Mike McCarthy, Steve Bauer and Oscar Pineda among its alumni and considers himself one of Greg LeMond's closest advisors. http://www.crca.net/races03/mengoni.htm It seems like they are referring to him in the present tense. |

Wasn't there a New York Times article on him last year? They had a picture of him at the time and seems to me that he was looking pretty old but chipper. |

He is pretty old, but he still gets on the bike and puts on the miles. I recall last year seeing him about 20 miles from home climbing up a hill. He wasn't real fast, but he made it up. I hope that when I am his age I too am out on the bike putting in the miles. ------------ Alex |

Let us not forget Wilson Vasquez, who in 2001 was beaten by a chick at
the "Tour of Denville" in suburban NJ, along with Mr Verheul. Sorry, but I could not let that fact slide. If you really have seen him since then, I am very happy to be wrong about this. |

Not too long ago he was hit by a car in FL, IIRC. But he recovered and is back on the bike as someone else has reported here. Don't bury the guy before his time. ------------ Alex |
