Default Ullrich - fat as ever

I don't know how good this report is, but according to a fan who was actually on course at the Circuit de la Sarthe-Pays de la Loire, Jan is as beefy as ever he was and was doing under 10 klicks on some of the small Sarthian hills.

Yeah, Jan is taking his time to get in form. But it's nothing that a few
"disco vitamins" won't correct.

What's funnier is that he thought it was a good excuse. "Ya, I was tak'n
ecstasy in a club. I don't take performance drugs," he pleaded with the
UCI. (Or something to that effect.) I suppose it is possible that he really
was just casually chomping down on disco biscuits and that they really did
contain some of the performance drugs that were tested for. Either way, he
screwed up big time.

I don't hold it against him. He came back and proved himself enough for me.
I like Jan. I want to watch him and Lance duke it out this summer. If he's
not in form, I will be disappointed.

Ecstasy is a variant of methamphetamine ... And will show up positive in a
drug test for same. Methamphetamine, as a stimulant, can be a performance
enhancer in competition, but it pretty useless in training.

Ullrich, due to his knee injury, was neither racing nor training at the time
he was surprise tested.

And he came clean right away ... No excuses, no denials.

For this, I will always respect Ullrich ... He screwed up, he admitted it,
and he did his time without complaint, and came back to nearly kick some
Armstrong ass in the 2003 Tour.

- Amusing to see that you call Jan fat. Trust me on this one... only
compared to the anorexic other riders does he look fat. I am skinny,
yet I look like the michelin-man compared to him.
- 10 klicks an hour uphill? That's actually not unlikely... as he was
probably doing power-training: Big gear very slowly uphill. Noone in
his right mind thinks even an untrained Jan is close to slow uphill.
The guy has a lot of talent.

It's so early to tell. I mean none of you are absolutely sure either
way of his fitness. He looks big now, but I would not be surprised if
he arrives in France a total power house.

I would also not be surprised if a bunch of unknowns come to the
forefront this year, leaving Jan and LA behind.

It could happen.

You mean strength training, not power training.
