Sorry, but that is not akin to Pete Townsend smashing his guitar.

Wonder what kind of Warranty he had when doing that? Not that he'd need one

Hell, nobody would have given him a warranty. I wonder how many
Rickenbackers went to pieces in his hands?

Yeah I always wondered about that too. Like did they fix 'em up between gigs
so he could smash the same one again. Did he exchanger his favorite for the
smashee etc? Like I'd really hate to smash an instrument I was fond of.
Imagine smashing your bike just because people were paying you to do it.

I always though it was the height of arrogance even when performed as a
semi-sincere gesture, let alone as a near-requisite finale... "This
performance is the absolute zenith this instrument could achieve.
Better to smash it now, since any lesser use would be a desecration."

Better to smash it, than to pass it along to someone deserving, who can
continue to give/receive joy of it?

Give me a freakin' break.

Which reminds me. What have you got in your garage? Got parts, maybe
even a whole bike, just sitting there? There's somebody out there who'd
like to have them. Ask your LBS about local bike-related charities.

He used to bastardize with salvageable parts and piece guitars
together to smash again.

Hey I got six kids. I don't need to go looking. At least two are out on a
bike right now as I'm writing this.
