I can't find many recent posts about Gary Fischer here. I'm
just wondering what you guys think of the quality and make of the Fischer Brand now. Anyone here own a Gary Fischer for a few years? How is it holdig up for you? I stayed in Germany for a year, and just borrowed my friends mountain bike all the time. I got alot of riding in, but didn't learn much of anything about mountain biking. Then I got back to the US and decided I wanted to keep up my habit, so being a know-nothing I just decided to go out to the bike shop and buy whatever looked cool for around $400. I ended up with a Gary Fischer Marlin, I count myself lucky. I could have just as easily ended up at the mountain bike store across the street where they sell treks and one size fits all bikes (!). Then I didn't ride it for a year. Finally I joined a local mountain biking club, and since then I've been hitting the trails every free minute that I have. I'm planning on Biking with a friend in Coloardo for a week in August, then I'm heading up to Durango with the local off road club. So far the bike has held up perfectly, and I haven't been treating very nicely (My riding style sucks). The gears aren't shifting as nicely as they did before though. Just hoping it'll hold up through all of this. I've got an ectomorph body type (6'2", 150), so the wear&tear might be a bit lighter than the average guy. |

Just hoping it'll hold up through all of this. /Any/ bike will need some tuning from time to time -- cables adjusted, chain checked and replaced if worn, brake pads inspected, bolts tightened, etc. etc. Take it to a shop if performance suffers, or buy a book on bike maintenance. Most important of all, of course: keep riding. Bill "Fisher hardtail is REALLY dusty" S. |

As others have pointed out, you'll have more luck looking for Fisher. Or Sugar. I just bought a Fisher Sugar. It's too soon to say, but I've enjoyed it so far. Here's the fisher website: http://www.fisherbikes.com/index.asp > I stayed in Germany for a year, and just borrowed my > friends mountain bike all the time. Fisher is owned by Trek. > Then I didn't ride it for a year. Finally I joined a local > mountain biking club, and since then I've been hitting the > trails every free minute that I have. I have no idea what you mean by saying that your riding style sucks, but no matter how "perfectly" you ride your bike, you're going to need to do some maintenance now and then. You can't just drive a car for years without getting some tune-ups, either. It's not clear to me what you're looking for here. Are you looking for validation of your Marlin purchase? Are you thinking of getting a new bike? Are you griping because you think that poor shifting after months of riding without maintenance is a sign of poor design? -- monique |

Oops wait, Dikembe Mutombo. Got my huge African NBA stars confused. Even better player than Bol too. |

I thought it was spelled with the German spelling, guess I never actually read the name stamped all over the bike. |

Didn't know that. Too bad I guess, consolidation brings down quality every time. I used to love new balance shoes, then they got bought by Nike .> > I've got an ectomorph body type (6'2", 150), so the > > wear&tear might be a bit lighter than the average guy. > > Manute Bol? I had a 2000 Fisher Sugar 2 and everything worked great. Never had any problems except normal wear. I bought a 2004 Fisher Cake 2 dlx and so far so good. I'm 6'2" 215lbs. |

I had a 9 GF montare that finally developed a frame crack
after 6 years of riding. Took it to the GAF dealer and with no questions asked received a new Big Sur frame as a replacement. I have been riding the new frame hard since I got it and it is holding up like a champ. hvatum wrote: > I can't find many recent posts about Gary Fischer here. > I'm just wondering what you guys think of the quality and > make of the Fischer Brand now. > > Anyone here own a Gary Fischer for a few years?
