The really interesting question now is who of those now ahead of Armstrong will try and succeed for a temporary stint in yellow and how will it impact the long term GC race? You have O'Grady, who has been in yellow in the past and road to keep it as long as possible before trading it in for the chase for green. Jakob Piil has been super aggressinve in this Tour as well as last year's and has every reason to think he might outlast O'Grady when being chased down by the long term contenders. Casar may have more motivation than any of them but I don't think he will last long enough past the current yellow jersey and O'Grady. ""Maggie" won't either and won't even try. How will this new yellow jersey chase effect the overall? Normally it would not be allowed to but since most of the GC opportunities are compressed in to a few days near the end of the race, there could potentially be a younger less known man that exploits a break and gets enough cushion to outlast the big boys chasing him over those few days. This new development and similar breaks could set up a wild card out of the radar of the big boys that expect to control this race (now down to USPS, T-Mobile and Phonak). |

Voekler may have the yellow a few stages into the mountains.
He's shown his ability to stay with the climbers. In the classique des alps he finished with Mayo. Gutsy ride by the frenchman today. He didn't just settle for the yellow, he tried to win the stage. Yeah, if the sprinters all call a truce. They missed their chance today and I bet they don't let another one go. |
