Yeah, saw that too, with the cranks and all. And what was
the little saddle bag thingy he had? He changed bikes for
some reason and got on the one with the SRM.

That is rare in big event when the rider's team in question
is sponsored by Shimano. I understand they are a lot harder
to deal with when swapping out component especially at the
big races. I think they typically have agreed upon fines in
the contracts. Campagno is thought to have the same set up
but is more flexible that Shinano in that regard. Jens
Voight is on CSC who use FSA (Full Speed Ahead) and they
seemed to be far more flexible than the big
2. Maybe they have no penalty clause?

Have you ever seen a Shimano sponsored team show up to a
race with a non Shimano crank (like an SRM or any other)? I
can't recall ever seeing it. Chris Boardman used to race
with the SRM at times but I think CA and GAN was then using
Campagnolo although when all is said and done any rider can
do it if he does not mind the penalties (weight and fines).

The Danish narrators on Eurosport said it was his training
bike. It certainly was with a different set of wheels for
the cobblestones, so maybe their top Cervélo isn't too nice
under bumpy conditions. Didn't see any of the others change
though, so it could have been due to defect.

Where did you see him race with an SRM? I always wondered
why he (apparently) never did but I have no trouble
believing that I simply missed
it.

Armstrong often races with an SRM in the early season - try
www.srm.de for pics from previous years.

I seem to remember that Gan used Mavic cranks and other
gear for a couple of the Boardman years. Those cranks are
very heavy compared to same era Campy and Shimano.
