Default Headset advice, please

Hi folks.

My bike has a 1-1/8" threadless headset on it, and I'm going to be replacing the fork soon. I'd like to leave the lower race on the existing fork just in case I want to put the bike back as original.

Is it possible to buy just a lower race by itself (for the new fork)? Are they universal (i.e. will the lower race from one 1-1/8" aheadset naturally work with the rest of an aheadset from another brand) or do I have to get it from the same model and manufacturer?

I'm trying not to spend a fortune on this and would appreciate any advice. Thanks!

Gary

I think you will find that you need a new lower race which is specific to the type of headset you have.

I've never seen these sold seperately but you could try your local bike shop to see if they can order you one.

I'm pretty sure you can buy"parts" for Cane Creek headsets
on their website. Don't know about other manufacturers.
