Default Suspension forks.

Excuse my ignorance, but I have a pretty old Dawes mountain bike, and I was wondering in general if it is possible to fit suspension forks to a conventional frame that originally had solid forks? Cheers.

Generally speaking, you should be able to fit a suspension fork to it provided the steering tube--the tube that connects the fork and the stem and passes through the head tube--is long enough to pass through the head tube and is the correct diameter. Older mountain bike designs use a 1-inch tube; newer designs almost universally use a 1 1/8-inch tube. Also, you need to take into consideration the type of headset you have. Threaded forks will work only with threaded headsets, threadless will only work with threadless.

Hope this helps...CDM
