how to convert a 8 speed bicycle to a 9 speed

Question how to convert a 8 speed bicycle to a 9 speed

Please I want to know what parts I have to change on my bicycle to convert it from a 8 speed bicycle to a 9 speed bicycle.

This is my list of what may I have to change, somebody can help me?
Shifter
Derailleur (front and rear)
cogset

you will need.. 9 speed cassette, 9 speed chain, 9 speed compatible shifters, 9 speed compatible derailleur

And you will need a 9-speed front chainrings. The 9-speed rings are a touch skinnier that the 8-speed ones. The 8-speed rings could possibly stretch the chain.

There is no such thing as a 9 speed compatible RD.

You need shifters, chain and casette. A 9 speed FD has a slightly narrower cage,but the original 8 speed usually works ok.

As long as the Rear mech has enough reach then it doesn't normally matter if it was originally intended for 8 or 9 speed since its the shifters that determine the position of the RD.

Yeah, and it works with 7 or 8 speed, just like a 7 or 8 speed RD with work with 9 speed...LOL

Let me start by sayingI dont know the answer to your problem. But... You seem to be getting a lot of help here, some of it conflicting. Perhaps you could ask your LBS for advice if nothing else they could cost it for you at least you would know then if you really wanted to spend the money for an extra cog, good luck.
