Help lazy folks with Polar Power setup.
I installed the Polar Power sensor on my bike w/o a hitch. It even seems to work! However, I don't own a suitable metric scale to weigh my chain, and I really woould not remove my chain until it is due to be replaced. (Read -- I'm lazy!).
That being said, I'm sure there are enough people here who use similar bikes/equipment, so someone can give me a rough "ballpark" estimate on chain weight, span, and chain length! I ride a 2003 59 cm Litespeed Vortex (39.75 chainstay), 98 spd D/A, with a 12-25 cogset, and I use a D/A 7700 chain. I know the owner's manual says 304 grams for a default weight, but I have to think that's for the chain in the length shipped by Shimano. Can we start a database of calibration info? Better yet, if someone else here has a litespeed vortex or a similar ride with a shortish chainstay, equipped with Dura Ace and a Dura Ace chain, can you post your calibration numbers here (or PM them to me!) TIA!  |

I just replaced the DA chain on my Ultimate and it's 268 g for 103 or 104 links.

There's no need to actually weigh your chain. Just use the default weight and length for the Dura Ace chain. The Polar uses this information to calculate the "chain mass per unit length" since it needs that to figure out the tension based on the chain vibration frequency. The only "bike specific" measurement you really need to measure is the chainstay length which shouldn't be hard to measure with a tape measure (or look it up on the litespeed website - it says 406mm for a 59 cm Vortex).
The ability to enter in the actual weight and length was provided to account for any "esoteric" chains. Quote:
