I am a 14 year old junior from adelaide south australia. I have got a 53cm, pearl white BT frame and fork. I have campagnolo record cranks and durace hubs.
its a pretty awsome bike. In about 9 months i will probably be willing to sell it, for around $4500 complete. |

Thats a disgrace isn't it. 10 year olds running stuff that Australians arent allowed until theyre in u19. I'm starting to sound like a poor kid in my last two posts but what is the point of buying a $6000 frameset or $2500 wheels if your just shit to start with? |

Now, now guys.. that pic is from the US 'Nationals' final. You're talking the best riders in that age group from 100 million people (or whatever the US population is - certainly much bigger than Australia's).
Yeah, I'd love to have some of that gear, but some of those 12 year olds would probably kick my butt! ![]() Bikes and parts are cheaper in the 'states too, unfortunately for us. hippy |

It's just frustrating for us Australians to see kids who've most likely only been on the bike for 12 months riding stuff like that when there are 16 year old kids who've been riding since they were seven or eight ripping out awesome times only to have to run 30mm max rims with 28 spokes and clincher. I'm sounding like I'm cracking an absolute shit now but the "quality" riding population of Australia would have to be on par with the U.S.A. From the results I saw on Cyclingnews anyone could race your nationals. IN Australia we have a limit on four riders from each state in all events apart from the flying 200 where we're only allowed 3 per state. 28 and 21 max respectively. As a result there's much more depty and the times reflect that. Put one of our best kids on double discs and aerobars (both banned) and they'd easily put a second into a top U.S.A kid for a 500 standing |

Do you think some of the 10-12 years old might have parents that race? I would guess at LEAST 90% do. Thus, I don't think it is that crazy of an assumption that maybe a few of those parents said: "Hey, since you are going to Nationals this weekend, do you want to use my nice wheels?"

I appreciate that but it's really just the principals of it. How would you feel if your kid didn't want to race anymore just because he/she was intimidated by the flash gear that others were using and you couldn't afford. I just think that it's pointless letting little kids have a $2500 wheelset (1200 usd?). If everyone was running basic gear all would be equal and the best rider would win. Not the rider who has the richest parents. It's stuff like that that turns people away from our sport. Simple as that. Sorry if I'm offending anyone here but it's just my 2 cents. |

I've got an 89 Somec (Columbus SLX) and a 73 LeJeune (Reynolds 531). I love these two like children. They serve me well on the streets of New York City. And, on occasion, the newlt re-surfaced Kissena Velodrome.
