He hasn't talked at all about the Astana situation that I have witnessed... just focused on race strategy. The interesting thing I noticed was his continual interest in and support of Vandevelde. I realise that VdV used to ride for him... but he of all people, you'd think, would understand the benefits of doping. So unless he knows that VdV is geared up... I can't understand him picking him to win stages or mix it with the big boys in the final part of a climbing stage... given that Garmin are supposed to be as clean as Ricco's Stage 17 TdF hotel room..

You know, it's funny Cranky. I had similar thoughts about his support of Vandevelde.

Initially, I thought he was touting his support of Hincapie a little TOO much, making his biases way too evident.

Then he started complimenting Vandevelde and supporting him too. I found that very odd, especially considering the Vaughters aspect too. So, I thought that helped boost his credibility really.

Overall, I think he's done a fine job, for the reasons you state.

I'm also pleasantly surprised. Not much pitching of his book either. The one thing I could do without is the constant flashbacks to the Armstrong times. I guess they have to do that to up the # of viewers.

The Pope of Dope has to continue to back ex-Posties and ex-Discos. They know where the bodies are buried.

Ah, yes, good point. I was scratching my head. Now that's a theory that actually makes some sense.

I really truly thought there'd be less Lanceness to this year's coverage. It's just the same. Every single situation is then analogized to LA and his heroics in some way. But, that's universal on Versus imo, so I'm a bit immune from being thumped over the head with it so much that I can't even say I've noticed how much, if at all, Johan has mentioned LA. I'm so used to hearing it from Hummer, Roll, Phil and Paul . . . .

Did Phil just say that Sastre's time trialing is looking like Armstrongs?

Thank god the tour is over and I don't have to watch another commercial for Tap Out.

He was wearing the same colored jersey. I think that's where the similarities end.

My neighbor is a Versus exec. He gave me an authentic yellow jersey last week with the Versus logo all over the front and big block letters on the back that say "Take Back the Tour."

Well that's cool..... Yes, "Take Back the Tour" indeed. Next time you see him, you might ask him why they're trying to sell this "take back the tour" concept at the same time they're bringing in The Pope of Dope for commentary.

In-your-face hypocrisy has a new name, and its name is Versus.

And speaking of hypocrisy, what's the deal with Carlos Sastre crossing himself and visibly pointing to heaven to thank Jesus for his performance in the ITT, hmm? Aim lower, Carlos.

And then I thought, what WOULD be the correct sign to make if you were Sastre and you didn't want to be a hypocrite?

Perhaps instead of cross, he should mime injecting himself with a syringe? Give credit where it's REALLY due.

Just an idle thought.

Another thing. I think Phil said that it took over a million seconds for Saster to do the tour. By my calculation, it really took about 315,000 seconds. Is he just making this stuff up. Or does he have people feeding him information? I can see the guys in the TV truck giggling about what they can make him say. "Hey Ed, see if you can get him to say that it takes a million seconds to ride the Tour..."

Only they do it this way by saying it in his earpiece: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Jln8RBjZFiw
