You know what really sucks?? Robbie Ventura's "commentating". I have to turn the sound way down when he comes on as his hyperbole concerning just about anything and everything is nauseating...The guy in the booth with Bobke is almost as stomach churning...

Versus is as good as it gets! In the USA you cannot view on ESPN or any other networks cause they don't carry it. I am very much thankful for Versus and the coverage they provide even with the commercials. They must make money on the endeavor or they will not carry it next year. You can gripe all you want but at least we have coverage of every stage. It was not to many years ago we only got a recap of the last stage and who won. Thank you versus!!!!

Don't forget the years that OLN broadcast the Tour every day except Sundays. I'm grateful just to see the ride into Paris!

They didn't show it on Sunday because whichever major network they're affiliated preempts their coverage and replaces it with a glorified one hour Tour de France travelogue, complete with highlights of the prior week, but mostly it seemed to be about France's countryside and culture. For those who just want to see the bike race, I'm sure it's torturous.

Agreed. That segment in the Garmin car while Millar was riding was frustrating. Milar's got three kms to go... and Ace Ventura is monologuing crap while Vaughters waits for him to finish talking. I could imagine Millar listening on race radio going "Shut the fark up!".

Not that there is a high degree of strategy in the conversation in any case at that stage of a chrono. But listening to Ventura would have made me go slower.

Post edit - Sorry.. Millar's English... he'd probably say.... "Please be quiet!"

I have to reply to this stupid post.

Garmin-Chipotle (sponsors especially) are loving all the media attention. You've revealed your naivete postpumper.

Nah, he would have gotten off his bike and thrown it at the idiot .

Haven't been able to watch any tour de france stages yet, been at work all day whilst it's on but this weekend I'll be rummaging around the murky depths of the internet for live streaming. Hopefully there will be something decent out there.

You too, huh? My dvr is going to be in overdrive this weekend as I try to play catch up.

For as much criticism as we all give Versus, anybody else notice the picture is actually MUCH better and clearer this year? My husband and I both think it is much improved from years past in that regard.

I've felt it morally-necessary to start boycotting the evening "expanded" coverage due to the fact that they have now added the guy I like to call The Pope of Dope as a commentator. After all the agonizing over cleaning up the Tour, how dare Versus bring in the guy who - in my personal opinion - did more to normalize doping than any other single human being, hmm?

It's sick.

As for the commercials, it has been pointed out that they are front-loaded so they can skip commercial interruptions at the end. I'm basically fine with that. Nobody "likes" commercials but you have to pay for the thing SOMEHOW.

I quite like his commentary. Only because it is more knowledgeable than the others and you have more confidence in what he is saying being correct. He doesn't seem too egotistical.

He hasn't talked at all about the Astana situation that I have witnessed... just focused on race strategy. The interesting thing I noticed was his continual interest in and support of Vandevelde. I realise that VdV used to ride for him... but he of all people, you'd think, would understand the benefits of doping. So unless he knows that VdV is geared up... I can't understand him picking him to win stages or mix it with the big boys in the final part of a climbing stage... given that Garmin are supposed to be as clean as Ricco's Stage 17 TdF hotel room..
