LOL, you have to send us a pic of you suited up for your morning commute in the winter.

Our shop is selling a lot of fitness and value-oriented road bikes this summer. We can't get enough Trek FXs, Pilots, and Specialized Allezes to satisfy the demand.

My ride would take me about 1 hour with several small hills. I have not got the short cuts and safer routes yet. But I was told that my mountain bike would be too difficult to cycle 40km return. The ride in the morning would be refreshing but the ride at 5pm could be 33-35C at times requiring me to go along the highways with bikes and cars speeing at 110km/h. That's why I am still doing my training at 20km each day with 1 rest day. Any suggestions?

Not sure what you want us to tell you. You have to decide whether you are comfortable riding with fast car traffic. I regularly do, but on roads that have a nice wide shoulder (about 2 meters wide) that affords me safety.

As to your choice of bicycle, obviously a more road-oriented bike will help you go faster and be more comfortable on your commute, but you can easily ride your mtb for a 40km round trip.

I would suggest, however, that you a train a bit more and are comfortable riding 40km a day (which is twice what you are riding now) before you attempt commuting that distance. You are setting yourself up for some pain and misery doubling your daily mileage while working.

I am planning to do 2 sessions of training i.e. 15km at 6am and another 15 km at 5.30pm. I will do this twice a week and gradually increase it to 20km each to mimic my ride to work! You can read the updates at my blog http://cyclingprofessionals.blogspot.com

Once you are comfortable on those distances for two rides a day you will easily handle the 20km one way of your commute. Keep us posted!

Red face Re: I noticed a lot more commuter bikers!

Started to train at night and may continue to do so... as it is cooler (27-30C) than the evenings (33-35C) http://cyclingprofessionals.blogspot.com

I would bike to school, but class is only about 2 blocks from my dorm.

It's quicker than a subway train, but an express train wins. Of course, the bike has a reserved seat.

Almost got knocked off my bike by a crazy driver who turned left suddenly! Should I get an air-horn to warn these guys?

Have you noticed a lot more commuter bikers in your city because of high gas prices?
Quite a few more in Oxford, UK. But, commuting is already quite popular.

More in NYC. All riding on the wrong side of the road, straight through red lights, with headphones on, and no helmets...

I miss Oxfordshire. Used to live in Abingdon....

No. Just be careful of drivers (they will ALWAYS not see you and do something stupid that will endanger you).

How do you deal with air pollution? I am trying to get more people to cycle but they say that the air in the city gets to them. http://cyclingprofessionals.blogspot.com

With a little investigation, it's usually possible to find a route for the commute that has significantly lower traffic than the main roads. Apparently, those in the know say that makes a significant difference in the pollutants you inhale. As a bonus, the less traveled routes are bound to be more relaxing and maybe more aesthetically pleasing. Also riding earlier in the morning helps as does riding later in the evening (if work schedules allow).

Here in Tucson, our air quality is very high, so health concerns re: pollution aren't really there. The only time there seems to be an issue is when you're behind a POS car or truck that belches black smoke.

If I lived in Beijing, I'd consider buying and using an SCBA:
