Is Ricco that bad at TTing (relatively speaking of course)? Needs to pick up that part of his game if he is ever going to be a threat in GT's with his bike... not just his mouth.

Yes, he is that bad. And he did appear to be something of a threat in the Giro this year... let us see what he can do in the mountains (keeping in mind that he has been repeating that he came to the TdF for stage wins and not for GC).

In the post-TT interview with RAI today he admitted he needs to focus on TT-ing this winter if he wants to up his GC game.

1. Sean Yates
2. Chris Boardman
3. Graeme O'Gree
4. Dave Lloyd
5. Ray Booty
6. Ian Cammish
7. Gethin Butler
8. Alf Engers
9. Stuart Dangerfield
10. Kevin Dawson

It's too short for Dawson or Butler. Michael Hutchinson is a better choice.

are you talking about the same Ricco that placed 2nd in the Giro the 1st time out of the blocks? that's a pretty damn good 1st outing in a GT i'd say.

in spite of his relative sub standard TTing and as much of a loud mouth as he is, i think he did some pretty good talking with his legs in the Giro... he was also the most aggressive of the top tier guys... not at all afraid to go out on the attack... i think people are letting their personal view of him cloud his actual accomplishments on the road which have been pretty damn good... remember he was not even supposed to ride the tour he got thrown into it a few days before the start.

Yeah... I didn't realise he was chucked in here so late. I see that he lost 2 mins to the stage winner (in 39km) on Stage 10 at the Giro... but he beat Di Luca. That ITT had some serious climbs though (one of 4km at about 9%). Just thought his 115th here stood out... in that I imagined he would have been all out for the white jersey.

I don't have anything against Ricco. Cycling needs colourful characters IMO who aren't afraid to say what they think.

His final TT in the Giro was somewhat similar. But is he in this Tour for getting a good placing in the GC, or is he there more for trying for stage wins?

Well he's said stage wins, which would mean it would be in his interest to not go all out in the TT...

But surely he's not ruling out the white jersey... or is the white jersey a non-event compared to getting a stage win? Probably is.

I would imagine that getting the white jersey is probably harder than trying for a stage win.

Probably is. But I doubt that Ricco' is that interested. He was fighting for the pink a few weeks ago. Not the young rider's jersey.

He decided for the Tour right after the Giro, and is there for stage wins.

Some surprising results today for me.
Not the winner (so much), or top 10, but Schlecks, Cunego, Valverde (on current form) and several others (for example, Luis Leon Sanchez, Bruseghin).
Interesting TT... Interesting Tour and everything's, still, up for grabs.

this year was *not* Ricco's first Giro - he rode the 2007 Giro in support of Simoni and had a stage win then too.

They might be dead... but those two are tough cyclists. They'd walk over broken glass to stay in the TdF until Paris. I reckon their team would get them to the start line... but they'd probably crash out of the race about 5 yards from the bottom of the ramp.

ok... so first time actually riding for himself in a GT he gets 2nd place... he has a mouth, but he actually backs it up with actions.
