Whoa! Quickstep has come up to the chase and the gap is tumbling down f'n fast. 30 sec down in 2 km. The peloton is fractured, and commentary says that Ricco may not be in the front chase group.

This is the stuff that makes a flat stage interesting.

Menchov is also not in the front chase group. The breakaway is looking more and more likely to succeed with a 4 min gap with just about 15 km to go.

Yes, they're saying Menchov is in the second group as well. That might mean the sprinters' teams could get some help.
I think the break will stay away. 15.7 km, 4'01". Feillu unless his legs are gone or they start playing silly-buggers. edit: snap! |

So now the most interesting bit is to see what the GC will look like and whether Rabo will be able to contain the damage for Menchov and Riccò.

Good stage and I hope the whole race goes like this. I hate predictable stages.

The battle between the 3 riders in the last km was awesome!

Dumoulin!
Dumoulin attacked, Frischkorn bridged, Feillu countered, but went way too early. Frischkorn did the work again to catch him, got second by half a wheel. Feillu in yellow, I think. |

Delighted to see the breakaway, stay away.
I agree with JH : pan flat stages like that are normally pretty boring affairs but the breakaway stayed away and the riders got their place in the sun. Good stage.

Looks like Cranky has made a comeback on thumper in Stage 3. And I get first pick tomorrow...
![]() Interesting stage. Frischkorn was so disappointed at getting second. Vaughters may not appreciate him saying that he wanted to attack at a critical point... but the DS was in his ear and made him hesitate.

That was a great flat stage.
Loved seeing the break succeed. A great final 2km's as well, no silly buggers slowing to a foxing cruise but on it all the way. But then no way Feillu would have mucked around with the malliot jaune as a prize, I don't think he cared where he placed. Had a good go at the win though. I have Feillu in a tipping comp team to, so happy with that ![]() |
