I think the lack of a prologue and time-bonuses, combined with the two first stages being hilly, will lead to some interesting racing. Hopefully with some time-gaps. And hopefully with some real racing before the final 10 km.

He himself has mentioned the Alpe D'Huez as a particular objective of his, saying that he is not looking to compete for the overall classification. Perhaps this is smoke. Obviously if one hangs tough and is not far off the pace of the top riders after some of the big tests, the overall must be an objective

What are the odds on Australia taking the two jerseys? Cadel for Yellow and Green for McEwen.....

Odds for Cadel taking yellow are about 2/1... so by those odds... he should win one in three times (0.333) on average. Odds for McEwen taking the points jersey are about 6/1 so he would win the jersey one in seven times (0.141).

Therefore the approximate odds of both of them winning a jersey are 0.333 X 0.141 = 0.047 or about 20/1.

I don't understand Zabel and Hunter's odds. Since they came second and third last year. Are they not racing?

Yeah. Zabel is more likely to finish the race than anybody on that list with the possible exception of Hushvold.

I gather Bennati has withdrawn because of an injury to his achilles tendon sustained in the Giro... that has not recovered.

Bad news for the ladies. Boonen and Bennati out.

Any thoughts on how Kreuziger will fare? Judging by his swiss performance it looks as if that may have been his aim rather than building for the Tour. Top-10er?


Looking down the young riders from last year, i see Amets Txurruka came third after Contador and Soler. Does anyone know how he is going this year compared to last? A quick look at wikipedia only mentions his Tour de France performance last year.

He appears to have been surprised at his TdS form and result. Talk of dropping out of the Tour around half-way. Of course, if he rides into a high GC position it is hard to see that happening.

Or if he potentially can win on the Champs Elysees ... I think that was his first really important victory, 1999 for Rabobank, first Tour stage win as well I think.
