Wasn't a troll. It was supposed to be a sincere thank you, and
recognition for the folks who normally get hammered on this stuff and
accused of all kinds of stupid shit by assholes like Hannity, Coulter,
and Malkin. Nothing more, or less. If I wasn't so straightforward, and
honest with what I'm thinking I'd save myself a lot of grief.
If I'd skipped this paragraph this wouldn't have even been a
discussion:

I've said it before, and I'm not any less cynical about the motives,
and am not about to forgive and forget, but today the vast majority
of
the folks on the left are doing far more for the troops, their
families, and the Country than the clowns in the Whitehouse and their
cronies.

Once a trust is violated, it takes time and concrete actions to be
healed. Anyone who says anything else is lieing. Lots of veterans feel
that they were violated, both by the politicians and the anti-war
folks. I'm one. I also realize that the actions of lots of those folks
have changed now, and was giving credit to them, but it's going to
take longer for me to be convinced on what the motivation is.
If some idiot is always attacking a certain group, makes it clear
that they are considered faulty humansat best, etc... then suffers a
bunch of setbacks, like lost elections, which could be tied to that
attitude, and all of a sudden has "seen the light" and is supporting
those people, and wants to be elected. What's the real reason for the
attitude change, and is the attitude change actually real, or just a
campaign fantasy?
There is no question in my mind at all that the support for the
troops from Howard, JT, and others here is totally genuine mjust
because of the people they are. For the rest of the planet they don't
get the benefit of the doubt. It's the old joke about "How do you know
a politician is lieing?" "His lips are moving!" I'll be interested to
see how deep the support actually runs once it's not politically
expedient. It may very well be totally genuine, and hope it is, and
will thank them for it again if it is.
Contrary to the popular slander, and purposeful misconception I'm not
all on anyone's side, and maybe that's the problem since those tents
look pretty damned tiny, but I enjoy being a heretic. Lets face it,
all the interesting people are going to hell, right?

From Tolkien:
Treebeard the oldest Ent says:
"I'm not altogether on anyone's side because nobody is altogether on
my side"

Hey, I think I showed a lot of restraint, Kyle! I know past history indicates you
would be correct but I don't really feel obligated to do the usual rebuttal of every
point, 'cuz that'd be the treadmill.

You make my arrogant elitist case well here Howard. Only you, and
those who think your way have the correct positions, no dissent will
be tolerated from the unwashed who haven't learned to think properly.
I apreciate your restraint in not re-educating me yet again properly.
Sorry to have been such a poor student and to actually have
independent thoughts and concerns which you find unworthy.
I'll try to get with the program.

Bill, we both know that you post things like the one I briefly replied to so you
can get "good talk" going. I didn't feel like rebutting *every point* like you hoped
for, as it's been done before (X many). Anyway, you did a good job of proving John's
point - pretty much all of what you wrote about Obama is SOP rightwing talking
points. I suppose I should be glad that you didn't include anything about "re-
education camps" - that's progress.

You know, I'm glad that you posted that you think that liberals/progressives/
Democrats are doing a better job of supporting the troops than the people who're
supposedly known for doing it but the stuff after kind of soured the thought. I don't
think you intended the post as a troll but the way that stuff slips out made it one.
I think that stuff is so ingrained in your psyche that it just comes out on its own.
(Of course, calling the l/p/D side a bunch of commies elsewhere didn't really do your
cause much good, if you know what I mean.) I'm not sure that you can objectively look
at your own posts and see just how much time you spend bashing "the left" and blaming
them for just about every conceivable ill. But what is thoroughly confounding is that
you state your position on a wide range of issues and they're frequently the ones
supported by the very people you're bashing and blaming.

Your blind blaming of "the left" is obvious in this thread with the suggestion
that guys who came back from SE Asia were "destroyed by the hatred" here. It's a good
proposition if you close your eyes and pretend that the guys coming back from SEA
were all clean, sober and happy when they landed and it was only the nonstop showers
of spit and screams of "babykiller" that made them drunks and addicts, that it had
nothing whatsoever to do with them trying to do whatever it took to mute the horrible
situation they were in over in SEA. Of course, you'd also have to pretend that a lot
of non-soldier guys from that era didn't also end up as drunks and addicts.

Anyway, your response above comes across as strangely petulant. I'm not (and
neither is John) trying to "re-educate" you and I don't find your "independent
thoughts and concerns" unworthy. I disagree with how you characterise an huge swath
of the American public, i.e. traitors, fools and haters of this country. I find your
attempts to make me out as some kind of "elitist" to be as off base as your attempts
to label me as a Stalinist Maoist FARCer.

I was thinking about painting my Japanese Clown Car. I thought this
would be good to drive around Santa Rosa in with the following in
Arnold Bocklin text:

OBAMA = KOMMIE
MCCAIN = BIG GOVERNMENT

in high contrast Purple American Paint by me, an American Painter.

Maybe

OBAMA IS A HATER
MCCAIN IS A LIFETIME PUBLIK "SERVANT"

would be good too.

I like your rasta touch -- I'll put Marley on the player with big bass
and open windows. I'm doing the Starbucks drive-thru.
