Looks like the Bruyneel led miracle is happening again, take a guy who
can't ITT and turn him into the best ITT racer (or almost)...why isn't anyone surpised ? |

Dumbass - Not saying that Contador/Bruyneel are clean, but Contador hasn't been around long enough to establish a lack of TT ability. Last year he was young enough to compete in Tour D'Avenir. Moreover, when Contador was w/ Seguros, he won the ITT in the 2005 Vuelta al País Vasco while "only" taking 3rd overall. Perhaps one could make the conclusion (if one were to base one's conclusions about a racer soley on race results) that Contador was a good ITTer and lost that race because of his lack of climbing skills. thanks, K. Grinigoni. |

Contador got 7th and 5th in the ITTs in last year's TdF, which like most Tour ITTs were longer and harder (in terms of the competition) than the ones in the Giro. So if it's all due to underhanded Bruyneel blue magic, it happened last year, not just in 2008. Ben |

He's had decent results in ITTs ever since he started back in '03, though I will note that it was usually in shorter ones back then. -- tanx, Howard Whatever happened to Leon Trotsky? In addition the 2nd half involved lots of climbing. Simoni did well too, and he's not exactly renowned dor his TT abilities. |

True, that's probably the only reason I'm reserving judgement on Contador until we get a flat ITT and we see how he does against Kloden. In spite of all the "affairs" I'd kept my interest in cycling at a high level but if we get another LA clone for the next 5 years (i.e. better than everyone, everywhere) I'm giving up. For a start it's just not "human" and secondly it becomes uninteresting. I hope Bruyneel gets caught once and for all. |

I said Contador could TT three years ago and had great potential. Some monkey contradicted me at the time. http://tinyurl.com/4jckje |

It would be more abnormal for cycling to have parity. It's normal for there to be a dominant talent. Before LANCE, there was Indurain. Before Indurain, Hinault. Before Hinault, there was Merckx (TIOOYK). Before Merckx, there was Coppi. thanks, K. Gringioni. |

Numbnuts - What changed with LA is that he trashed the competition EVERYWHERE, ITT, Mountains for 7 YEARS and bonked only once (Joux Plane 2000), champs like Merckx, Hinault or Fignon could only do that for one or two years when they peaked. |

He built his wins in the ITTs like Hinault and Merckx before him. Check your facts, he lost several ITTs (here's a clue, 1979) and other than in 1981 he certainly was NOT the best climber.
