But speculation in ignorance is invited, so here goes...

The quoted post you gave, Thunder, spelt 'tumor', not 'tumour', so he might be an American/Canadian/Victorian, or the automatic spell-checker has stuffed it up, but he is less likely to be English.

But his signature quote is from Damian Grammaticus, who is (I believe) a BBC journalist. I think unlikely to American on that score, more likely to be English or Commonwealth.

Certainly a native English speaker, even if he does speak Italian. Australian would fit all of the above.

Clearly a DP refugee, but there are many others here.

More pertinently, however... so what?

His posts are occasionally frustrating because the attempts to feign a lack of command of English can result in the post being unintelligible. But just because he hides from one anonymous handle under cover of another is no crime. I'd be interested to know what the handles of the DPF refugees here are, just because that'd be interesting, but they have their reasons for not disclosing them. That's their choice, not mine, and if italiano feels the need deliberately to sound like Papa Giuseppe, let him.
Good post Drongo. You really have a smart level head. As C'Girl said hence, it was his PM's trying to expose others' identities which made me angry at his obvious BS front.... I haven't really got too perturbed about it... except when he started to sew seeds of disinformation about my friends... The switch from perfect English to broken Latin-Anglo really through a wobbler into the mix. Anyone who suddenly switches character like that makes one wonder about his integrity.

But you're right. As long as he's not trolling... he does offer something... even if he is playing games with the mask. Who knows... he might be hiding his ID from an ex-wife or some other third party. That wouldn't be my business. All is fine if he didn't do the trouble-making crap.

VF, if it is you, I think you should come clean so you can take a bow and come back and join the party; your sophisticated humor, as veloflash in the flesh, is missed.

T-man, you left yourself out of the options. I don't think you've been completely ruled out.

Between this thread and the Other Forum Follies thread, people have neglected to point out two more oddities. 1) Being married to an American and having American kids and yet not picking up on any English in the process. 2) How does a mere lurker at DPF have such a deep personal hatred for House?

you got me C, I Thunder, aka Thunder the Great, am indeed, Italiano.

The lavish use of emoticons immediately rules you out thunder...

Another early post in December 2007 from italiano before he seems as if he hit his head early January and lost the ability to speak legible, coherent English.

Seems quite intelligent. Why the charade?

I hear your point. But he is not really a troll IMO. Just someone who lacks respect for us by deliberately posting in gibberish. And some unsociable antics he pulled via PM last January.

I usually wouldn't even notice him, except that his post critiquing someone else's little games played prompted my little dig at his own little game of subterfuge.

Once I mentioned my best guess at his original sock-puppet though he showed his fangs like an angry mouse on a Crocodile Hunter episode... . The rest just flowed.

Sorry if it has clogged up the forum air-waves with crap.

I just wish he would speak in the English that I know is deep within him. He really has some interesting views which I can't understand most of the time.

The whole thing is just plain weird. You might do what Italiano is doing for a little while - like maybe a week - but this has been going on for quite a while now. Surely the joke (whatever it is) must have worn thin by now. I know I couldn't maintain such a persona for more than about a dozen posts before boredom would set in.

Dunno, maybe the dude has been dabbling in one too many mind altering substances, or something.

But Crankers, you really need to chill mate, getting wound up over this stuff is no good for a man of your advanced years.

I assure you that any gibberish I post is not deliberate.
