I'm still highly skeptical that it isn't going on with the big riders.

Yea, I have to say that I am not on any Di Luca bandwagon. He has an intimate relationship with a centrifuge somewhere in his life. I just beat on Levi, Contadope, and the Hog because their stalkers seem to believe the lie that they win clean with the most infuriating intensity.

In an interview, the Vice-President of the Kazakh Cycling Federation claims Astana is in the Giro because of the president of that federation personally (that would still be Daniyal Akhmetov, I presume http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Daniyal_Akhmetov ). So political pressure seems very probable.

The article in russian: http://www.sports.kz/news.php?id=0000002623&type=main&st=0000000026

The Vice-President also has sevaral other really "interesting" (or disturbing) comments, on why Astana had problems last year (western conspiracy), on Vinokourov, the role of Astana, Bruyneel etc.

I don't understand russian, and the google translation is not very good, but from what I can understand, the whole thing really, really stinks.
