Seeing as how people still think Tyler is innocent, I don't think this will change any minds of the die-hard believers.

I have to admit I was still on the fence until Geoghegan's cellphone escapade. After that I only wanted Phloyd to go away.

I thought this summed proceedings well:

In the end, the panel saved its harshest criticism for Landis, who it said essentially tried to muddle the evidence and embarrass the French lab, and continued on that course even after the evidence was shown not to exist.
"Appelant's experts crossed the line, acting for the most part as advocates for the Appelant's cause, and not as scientists objectively assisting the Panel in the search for truth," the decision read.

Personally I am delighted that Landis got his comuppence : he played especially dirty when he and his team tried to silence Greg LeMond.
I disagree with one thing, Lim, and that is people who were stupid enough to donate to his fund should lose their money. They contributed to the sham defense and a deliberate attempt to discredit WADA and the French lab. For them to lose their money is more than fair.

I'm especially pleased that the CAS is forcing Landis to reimburse USADA for some of their expenses. It's ironic that he appealed to the US Govt. to cut funding for USADA, yet the reason they need funds is to fight BS appeals like his.

Now, what needs to happen is an investigation and/or charges need to be brought against this outfit for the 'witness tampering' that was evident in the threats against LeMond.

I reckon the truth will die with Landis. He can never own up. He acted the way he did because he felt cheated. Problem was he took his anger out on the wrong people. He should have been angry at those who enticed him to dope in the first place, and at himself for not havng the courage to say no. I also think he would have been angry at the UCI for turning a blind eye to USPS doping then stamping down the minute LA retires. However, he couldn't express that anger because he would have then had to admit to his own doping whilst on that team.

I think we would all have some sympathy if a rider admits his guilt.

Landis refused, point blank, to give up the charade.
Landis deliberately prevaricated and lied after stage 16 of the 2006 TDF,
When the test came back positive, he said it was due to his drinking alcohol during the TDF.
Then his excuse morphed in to something about his having a naturally high level of testosterone.
Then his excuse changed again - saying that the lab were at fault.

I lost count as to how many times he put forward excuses.

Surely the lawyers, who perhaps are use to duping dumb American juries (?), deserve some of the blaim. In the Hamilton case, these guys continued to state that the lab who performed his blood doping test was incompetent because they had yielded a false positive when they were being vetted for the test. This was despite the fact that they were aware that there was never an actual false postive because the lab who sent them the known sample was mistaken about it being clean, when in fact it was a doped sample.

Consequently, Floyd Landis is disqualified from the Tour de France 2006 and is suspended for a period of two years starting from 30 January 2007. Floyd Landis has been ordered to pay the sum of USD 100'000 to the United States Anti-doping Agency (USADA) as a contribution towards its costs in the CAS arbitration.
Great news! I was fearing that CAS would admit lab irregularities and say that he is guilty but cannot be convicted. Let's now see what excuses the apologists come up with.

Yeah, I think Lance even suggested that FL should stop the excuse spitting machine and just wait for more results.

And now, FL can never really own up. If he does, it will cause outrage among his believers who have forked a good chunk of his legal cost. I agree with Rolfrae that chances are that the truth will die with him.

Oh dear.....

Landis said he was "saddened" by the verdict. "I am looking into my legal options and deciding on the best way to proceed," he added.

What other "legal options" are there for Landis? Isn't CAS the end of the road?

You hit on something I brought out all along and that is the true winners in this case are the lawyers and the 'consultants' who were well compensated for their testimony. Landis wasn't going to win, that was clear from the onset.

The longer this thing dragged on, the more the lawyers could bill. And what better way to pay for it than a fund from individual donors. All those donors did was feed money to a law firm and as a double whammy they spent even more of their tax money (and mine) by making USADA defend against the suit.

His suspension ends in six months. Maybe he should start training.
