Writers who write about their favourite team or favourite rider, or who write about a team/rider based solely on their sharing the same nationality, are not journalists.
They're bargain basement hacks.

stick to bookkeeping I reckon.

Huh? Fark's a community-based news aggregator of sorts, with a cult following and a history. The content is in the comments (and photoshop contests, of course).

If you want real asininity, look no further than digg and reddit.

Read the book, it explains the link, and the origin of the term. The site was created following the origination of the term.

And if you read what I was referring to, your "Huh?" wouldn't be necessary.

Sorry, Amazon doesn't print the whole book so that I can read it online.

EDIT: I actually took the time to click the link, and now I see where you're coming from. Apologies for the misinterpretation.

I presume that Helmet is still one of the journalists fighting the good fight.
I've done both. Sometimes you have to just have to pay the light bill.

Fact, I'm changing professions. With my wife's blessing, I'm starting truck driving school on March 24th.

Yeah, actually. He's giving me some advice. I've always wanted to drive the big rigs.

Well, I'm sure you'll find plenty to write about doing that...going to do freelance then?

I don't think there is much money in real news in the U.S. People barely read. They can tolerate thirty second new reports on the evening news, and that's about it. CNN could have been twenty-four hours of McNeil-Lehrer New Hour, where stories are given ten to fifteen minutes, or Frontline, which is an investigative journalism program that spends an hour on one subject. Instead it is just like the crappy evening news rerun every half hour all day.

Yeah, but they're all over that Spitzer story 24/7. Every possible angle covered.

They need to hire that guy, what's his name, from the Howard Stern? Stuttering Bob? Some needs to ask the question if the sex was protected or unprotected. I think that's the only detail CNN hasn't uncovered.

Stuttering John overcame his stuttering and is now the announcer for the Tonight Show.

Cable news revenue must be highly reliant on these 24/7 stories. They are willing to jump on anything: hurricanes, criminal trials, scandals, etc. The news media has become a parody of itself.

Watching the news spin the primary election for the media's own benefit is sickening.

There is a flat screen TV in the Starbucks attached to the supermarket I go to. That Nancy Grace is on CNN when I'm there a lot. People are just transfixed at her (standing together in front of the screen on the wall) as she goes on, and on, and on, and on about some petty domestic news story where a guy has done something bad to his wife/girlfriend.

I am transfixed by their transfixion...
