Was that the amateur version or the Pro version? Good ol' wikipedia has F. McCormack as the 1996 winner, but then again I don't remember an Einstein Cycling team so it was probably the amateur version? |

No shit. Show me something from Levi's TdF time trial win last year and it will matter. People on this board are like politicians going after an opponent's teenage drinking or something.

Bahati's page mentions the "elite" criterium championships. That term usually implies amatuer in the US. Usually category 1 or 2 but not pro.

Dope tests don't capture well-doctored and smart dopers. If dope tests did catch them all, even half the time, no one would dope.

I checked with the USCF. They don't know who won in 1996. So, I am claiming the title.

It woud be nice if one of these informed posters could come forward and say that Leipheimer did test positive. He tested positive for XXXX. He was stripped of the title. He was given a six month suspension. All I have ever heard is the occasional rumor and hints about it, but when pressed, no one has any solid facts.

Kind of like the situation with Lance. But that doesn't stop people from pressing the issue.

The difference is that everyone knows Armstrong tested positive for EPO six times. The details about Leipheimer are a little fuzzy. Let Levi Dope!!!

I know i'm going to get gunned down here but in all seriousness: Levi is actually quite a good time triallist before his '06 victory. Not amazing, but he'd placed quite highly in a good few contests against the clock. 2007, he changed his time trial position, much better than it was in previous years. And his results in time trials throughout the year were consistently better.
Probably still doping though, just that half of it was the new position, the other half Disco's superior doping program. |

yeah, he showed he could tt at the 2001 Vuelta, and the worlds after it. Off memory, two 3rd's or perhaps two seconds in the tts at the vuelta. I think that year there were an unprecedented 4tts. Prologue, mtn, and two medium-longs. He then finished either 3rd or 4th in the worlds. He has always been strong at the dauphine over about 10kms. And then the long Dauphine tt. The guy can tt. The thing is, can he tt so well because of his o2 capacity that is artificially inflated. Second question, can he tt better than others on dope, because he has a more comprehensive and expert program, and gets better o2 vector delivery. hmmm, moot speculation. the guy can tt. NEver shown it in the Tour tho. In his defense, Armstrong, Ullrich, et all, were always in the Tour. Take out Vino, got a clean Millar, CSC no longer using recovery products... take Basso, take Landis. Not unsurprising he won the last tt. |
