Ok, I haven't read any thread other than the one that Frigo posted, and I think it was kinda obvious by the second page. Guys, you have to be more devious to be successful!

'Mike Ferrari' made me snort coffee all over my keyboard.

I was browsing the paceline which took me to a Contador fansite - made me laugh that none of them had even been aware of him as a rider before he signed to Disco, or that he's managed to get himself banned from the Tour the year before for riding for, um, Astana - but someone had written in support 'we love you Astana - America's team!'. I suppose supporting dictatorships with appalling human rights records where opposition leaders manage to shoot themselves twice in the stomach and then once in the head when they're already dead is q pretty wholesome American activity.

A lot of these dudes still relate to this team as the old Disco, which was an American team. Hence this nonsense of Astana = America's team, etc. It is also possible that a minority seriously think this to be an American team...

I know that - I just wonder how many of the paceliners know that Astana = Liberty = Saiz = ONCE? There's such a delicious irony in Disco fans supporting the old enemy I think

Yes. I wonder how many railed against last year's Astana for that matter. But of course, once JB and his boys go over there, everything HAS to be good and clean, right? I wonder what would have happened if things had occured the other way around - Vino and gang setting up home at Disco (a thought experiment). Would these dudes support Disco then, or would Disco become an enemy?

That's a fascinating suggestion. This whole thing could end up being someone's dissertation for a PhD...

Who runs that site anyway.... I couldn't really find anything that said who it belongs to (I am assuming that it does not belong to discovery or Tailwind - they would have little reason to keep it going - though who ever is keeping it up and running is giving a lot of free advertising to Discovery channel). The members seem to be pretending that Discovery never went away. Tailwind closed up shop. The team is gone - dispersed, but those folks are acting like everyone just went enmass to Astana and are carrying on, which is not true...

Yeah... Its like when disco ended in the late 70's. It was hard to let go for some. But people just had to accept it. Bee Gees were history...

The administrator that popped in yesterday and posted the etiquette thread now works for RBR. Does the paceline still have a paid staff?

That's an even more fascinating suggestion. So you volunteer to be this someone's PhD adviser, right?

The Last Days of Disco was a great movie. I always thought those movies were tongue and cheek until I read an interview with the writer/director and he sounded just like the characters.

So who the heck got banned? I didn't read anything that approached "bannable" content under "normal" circumstances. No personal insults, no nazi references, no use of the term "crap weasel."
