Okay, this whole thread has suffered from 'unreliable narrator' issues. From the first post, I assumed that you were riding your first race, got upset when people passed you, started blocking faster riders, was chastised for it and now you are some support. When you said it was your son, I figured he's some confused teenager and felt sympathetic. After all, the kid is acting appropriately, like a juvenile. And for all we know there might be an underlying story, maybe this other kid has been picking on your every day since elementary school and this was the rightful pummeling this guy deserved. And you, as a father, are looking to defend your son even when probably wrong, as any overly protective parent should. Then I read that he's between 41 and 44, and I thought, oh, well, what kind of man-baby is this guy? I mean, what is WRONG with him? Why doesn't he get himself a life with some real problems beyond assaulting another individual over a preceived slight while riding his bicycle? And how is his OP father responsible for enabling this type of behavior? And then I realized that I'm a lot closer to 41-44 than my teens. In other words, what there was of my athletic "prime" is fading faster than smoke rings and beer burps. If I thought I was about to win a race (any race, please!) there's no telling what I might do to an opponent. I might make the chariot race in Spartacus look like Valentine's Day toodle. I think that you owe it to us to write that it was all a dream and we can be done with it. Thank you, Scott |

I started this thread because I knew there would be different views. Yours is one of them. However, among the several things you ignored or brushed off was my asking opinions of *racers* which you clearly are not. Back to Spartacus with you. Good luck. |

Way to get snippy with someone who's sorta backing your views. I'll have you know that my entry fees have lined many a race winner's pocket, and though I have felt blood lust towards those faster than I, I just never had the energy after a race. Well, like they say, the apple doesn't fall far. Please don't send your son to beat me up, and have fun screaming at people in a faster line at Walmart. Peace! Scott |

Back to Spartacus with you. Good luck. " My point was that you had just ducked in out of the cold, and clearly stated that Scott, a racer, is not a racer. He already did let you know, by the way. Regarding your son, I can understand why he would have done what he did. I have, in my day, been thrown out of not only a tournament, but a particular series of tournaments, for life for a physical foul. I was angry about something my opponent did that I considered cheap, that was going to interfere with my standing in the tournament and not his. I kicked him too hard. At the time, I was as mad at the judges as I was at the kid I was fighting. In retrospect, in response to his lack of sportsmanship I lost my cool and acted outside of good form and sportsmanship. I was thrown out, and I deserved it. It's unfortunate that your son, who made his way to the expert class, will have less places to race. However, shit happens, and he can't blame anyone but himself. |

They had to look for me because I was last and late, over do. So every year I got faster and faster till in 03 I got 1st place and then I retired from racing with my 1st place medal that hangs on my wall with my number plates at age 49. I still ride but no race for me. I sit in my arm chair and watch it on the tube at 54. I |
