Thanks Bro! There are some gems up there. Interesting how these dudes are suddenly sympathetic to Kazhakhstan. How many do you think were even aware of the existence of such a country before JB went over to Astana?

The only point that they're making is that the ASO really doesn't have confidence in any team, or the people representing that team to race clean.... And... that the ASO doesn't have enough aptitude to clearly argue (with credibility) as to WHY Astana is being excluded. Otherwise they would have just made that abundantly clear when Astana pulled out of the TdF last season.. Right???"
The funniest thing about paceline is how much they hate Slipstream. One gets the feeling that underneath it all they know how dirty Bruyneel really was/is, and hate how Slipstream is now viewed by many as being the anti-USPS. Bugs the crap out of them that JV/Slipstream have become the good guys and JB/USPS the bad guys.

More from the paceline:

"I agree with you that it is a crassly racist thing. Astana is exotic, not European, therefore attackable. I just don't believe the other Pro Tour teams will do anything. It is abundantly clear that ASO is carrying out the Roman method of decimation. They pick one team, and suspend it from their races. Last year Unibet, this year Astana. If they were concerned about the scandals, then Gerolsteiner, High Road, Rabobank, Saunier Duval and Silence Lotto, Cofidis and Quickstep would be out on their ears. It is not the case.

If ASO have not taken total control of cycling to the destruction of the UCI by next year, they will choose another team to eviscerate."

"Excellent...I'm adding Versus to my "write to" list -- pardon me, I'm stepping out now ... the sponsor witch hunt is on."

"This makes me so furious, I don't even know what to say. I'm just hoping that the sponsors will step in and start pulling some strings."

" I just can't find words! I don't want to believe it, it is like a nightmare! So Iwon't watch neither Giro nor Tour this year!"

" Go Char, find the sponsors for us so we can all start sending emails!

I have a gut feeling that this is not the end of this story..."

"Today has been awful so far and it's only 11:25 here. We had a blizzard followed by an ice storm followed by a freezing rain storm (it's still raining), then my laptop crashed, then i found out that my college decided not to cancel classes even though it's impossible to walk on the ice oustide. Then I went to my organic chemistry lab and ruined my experiment, then I find out that the ASO banned Astana! Could today get any worse? I think I'll make myself feel better by sending angry e-mails to the sponsors like Charizard."

" Hey, send a letter to velonews as well webletters@insideinc.com make sure to put your name and town or country, and keep it short and pithy!"

"It's the 13th! It's not a Friday though, so I wouldn't think that it'd be an unlucky day. It's turning out to be pretty unlucky though."

"I think the ASO will regret this decision. Not only have they snubbed the previous TdF winner, they have probably pissed off the entire country of Spain. They have also eliminated two of the five Americans that could possibly ride the Tour on a PT team (could care less about Slipstream, they won't be competitive). So what does that do to the possibility of tv coverage in the USA come July? I can only guess that if we get coverage at all it will be delayed and minimized. Money talks, so perhaps the oil embargo route is the best way to go!

Pug, I think the teams will react in Astana's favor for this. I don't think they will feel relief that they have a better chance to win....I think they will feel worried that they, too, could be the next victim of ASO's bullshit."

" ASO not only ticked off the entire country of Spain, they enraged all of North America."

" go **** ASO

IN MY COUNTRY WE SAY IN PORTUGUESE

IA IA IA A UCI TA UMA PUTARIA!

VAI PRA PUTA Q PARIU ASO"

" They have banned the race favorites:

Spain - Contador
USA - Leipheimer
Germany - Kloden

Is this a desperate attempt to get French victories?"

"They have no one who can win. The favourites will be Cecchini's Rogers and Gerdmann, and Evans who protests too much and Valverde no.18. I would love it if Popo could win, but I don't think so. I shall support Valverde, because he can cause MAXIMUM embarassment to the ASO. He's also a terrific rider and SPANISH!!"

"I can't believe this. I am in training right now and I cannot go through the whole list of posts. I have to get back. This is horrible.

DID RABOBANK GET INVITED??? DID COFIDIS GET INVITED????????????? Whatever."

I would have thought that after they all got honorary citizenship in Kazakhstan, they would not have been too supportive of the Spanish. Maybe it's easy to confuse the running of the bulls and the running of the jew. Very nice.

It's all breaking down over at DP. Next stop: The anarchy of freedom of speech. A post below from Steve in ATL. It's the sort of Internet hooliganism I would expect at CF.

Actually, Jimmy, I think your objection is not being able to discuss doping as you see fit, which, here, must take place within the rules of the board. I did not make the rules, I was asked to enforce them. Obsolecent rules like, lets have some minimum of evidence before we accuse someone of something. If you don't like them, that's fine, I understand. Campaign for them to be changed. But I'm not the one who made them. So don't even begin to pretend that you understand my attitude about doping based on posts *within the rules* that I have made here. Maybe I am a dinosaur, but you're the loud-mouthed kid who thinks he has the rigth answer to *everything*. You don't. Neither do I.

Is he saying that, without the overbearing rules over at DO, he'd better be able to express his opinion on doping?

Aren't forums designed for expressing your opinion?

What kind of numbnut stays at a forum like that?

Stop posting these cross-forum links. It takes too much time to follow.

From the dumbest people of paceline
Quote:
Let the Kazakhstan government suspend all oil, gas and uranium supplies to France until the truth be told as to why the ASO have rejected Astana..............What have they to lose, and what could the French do about it? Alternatively let Astana take the ASO to the European courts, why not they have a clear case. As to Prudhomme saying to Alberto change teams and you can ride, this is another clear indication he wants to break the JB AC connection. Lets hope the French minister for sport steps in and says enough is enough.

I just emailed them this message:

Sent: Wednesday, February 13, 2008 12:58 PM
To: 'asopresse@aso.fr'
Subject: ASO is an absolute farce

I have watched and followed every scrap of TV coverage of the TdF since the 1980s. I won’t be watching any TdF *anything* this year. In fact I’m boycotting *all* TdF coverage and *all* of the TdF sponsors because of ASO’s idiotic decision to exclude Astana. What a crock. It’s a pretty poor organization that bans a team whose managers and riders have enjoyed spectacular success and enormously increased the fan base and viewership through US Postal and Discovery.

The new motto of your biased, hypocritical organization should be. “If we can’t cause them to lose by designing courses just to beat their past riders such as Lance, now we will cheat and invent an excuse now to ban their managers and riders from the race.” This decision finally exposes you as having the least ethics and being the poorest sports of any organization involved in cycling.

May the boycott of your race and your sponsors grow exponentially in the coming months.

Chrystie

Its a good place for people who like to blindly follow rules and not have to think for themselves.

Hang on a minute... why join a frickin discussion forum then? Hypothetical DP discussion:

DP Dipshit: Oh I can't wait till the official arbitration verdict today so we can discuss their findings.

MOD: As long as you only discuss what they say in their press release and don't stray into any speculation on where this might lead.

DP Dipshit: So you want us just to say what they say and nothing else.

MOD: That is correct. Any statement or conjecture beyond that would be lacking in evidence in which to base it on. I will have to censure it.
