I'd never heard that. I remember watching in disbelief when Grewal (a pure climber) outsprinted Bauer (a crit specialist at the time). Grewal was always a headcase. Never got it together for the Euro scene (racing for Panasonic I think). His brother Rishi was a hell of a mountain biker, though. |

Kennf : Grewal writing in CS a few years back admitted that he had doped..........it was in the immediate aftermath of, I think, Festina. Kimmages book "Rough Ride" has some good stuff on Grewal - very talented rider by all accounts but he couldn't apply himself mentally, according to Kimmage.

You can always use Campy to get rid of the atrocity that is STI. ![]() ![]() I kind of wish the UCI would up the min bike weight by a kilo. Steel bikes could be used again. The reality of bike manufacturers sponsorship is that they wouldn't give the teams steel, but we could hope. It would be cool if the pro Monte Paschi Eroica required steel. Heck, the Giro should require steel for one of the stages that ends with a gravel ascent.

I don't have Lightweights. ![]() The super light stuff from small manufacturers scares me.

point being, steel can still come in light enough, for all but a 55-60 kg climber who needs a 6.7 ride. I think Boardman put it best, a bike has to go down hill as well as up hill. A 70 kg rider cannot descend safely on a 6 kg bike. |

You crazy. One of my bikes still has downtube shifters, but my bike with Record Ergo is just so much better. I don't think the looks are much different, and the carbon levers look great. I like that the ergo shifters are a little thicker than old school brake lever ones.

Don't get me wrong, I love my lightweight steel with record, nice wheels, etc., but every now and then I like to hop on my old bike with d/t shifters, normal brake hoods, 32 spoke wheels, etc... It just feels right! |

I am not picky. I've ridden every material there is except for bambo. Only one I still don't like is all carbon. I probably would never buy a ti bike either (sorry Bro). I like my carbon/alum crack'n fail. Glad to know that I will be able to get the next one at KMart.

I ride fairly frequently with Greg, and he has rekindled his passion for riding the bike. (Trust me, he still has plenty of gas in the tank!) ![]()

Should be noted that LeMond is not using toestraps in the this photo or in '89. He was one of the first to migrate to the TIME pedal/shoe system but he wrapped a pedal strap around his shoe to stop the Velcro's from bursting open........ Kelly of course used toestraps and probably still does ! |
