By the way, I am aware that this is the BIKE cafe' Leads one to think that the word "bike" should be somewhere in this thread. Did you not, yourself, call him a Spam Sham? So I guess it goes like this, only you and your almighty opinion is relevant ?If you want to turn this into a name calling, personal attack (read: jerk!) thread I am sorry but I will not indulge you, you have already shown your true colours and I have better things to do. Your last sentence I won't even comment on. Happy New Year.

The Bike Café is an off-topic forum, so topics don't have to be about bikes. Damn near every forum has one. Leave if you don't like the forum. |

Well, sounds like you are getting lots of opinions on this so there may not be a need for one more. You know what they say about them, everyone has one. My bro-in-law belongs to one of these men's orgs. And I have heard very similar rhetoric from he and his "friends". It seemed like something put together for those that can't find themselves or don't really know what it is to be "a man", so they need someone to tell them, because of underlying self doubts. Sort of like organized religion. Usually the antics they like to celebrate aren't popular in public, like dancing around a fire naked in the woods, and getting falling down drunk and smoking cigars, belching and farting (which I enjoy as much as the next guy), hiring hookers and strippers... and then they get together for some sort of self-redemption excersizes, like building a playground for a local school to make up for the other behavior. I think trying to pidgeon hole too many behaviors into a typecast mold of "a man" is stupid. So -- if you don't fit into this mold of who other people believe you should be, you are somehow deficient ? It is funny (or sad actually) that most of these guys in the club can't keep a wife or girlfriend - especially those that take it seriously. So for those that need a value system to live by , because their own is somehow still lacking or unsatisfying --- more power to ya. Me -- don't want it or need it. Too narrow a view. I am happy coexisting with my fellow men and women in the roles that we individually choose to take, based on our individual strengths of ability, personality, talent and intellect; irregardless of gender. This especially works well with my spouse and 4 kids (3 daughters and a boy). We encourage each other to emphasize our strengths and help each other with weaknesses of everyday living, irregardless of what people may "think" is typical. I have a daughter that loves sports and lots of "other boy stuff". My son is pretty hardwired typical male but we encourge his "emotional intelligence" and ability to share his feelings too. He even took a dance class, and as a little kid was the victim of older sisters dress ups more than once (but likes karate and shooting guns much more)... He's going to be 6'4 and 225 lbs grown up so I am not too worried about his ability to be "masculine". He will do much better in the world with an open mind and not from the self-loathing or doubting that can come from not fitting into someone's elses idea of what he should be (as long as it's all legal and not physically or mentally harmful to others)... like this thread..
