What are you using to get these power numbers? *the KK computer or a PT/SRM*

I have the same question. According to the OP, 92rpm in 53x17 is 36.44KPH (according to analytical cycling) or 340 watts on a KK- not 280 as he says. I sure wish I could hold 340watts "quite comfortably" for 2x20.

HA Ha no way dude, if could bang out 340 watts as 2 x 20's I'd be in dreamland. There's lots of info on K K's trainers do a search.

Holding 300w in a big gear at a low cadence is actually a lot easier than doing it on the little ring ;-) - sure that's tough on your legs, but the stress on your HR and lungs is more evident with a higher cadence.
Thanks for the cadence tip Bulldog and DKH2. I stuck with 53/17 and upted the cadence to the mid nineties. I just managed a christmas day 3 x 20: power output 312w, 304w and 301w av hrt 168bpm

Good work! How much do you weigh? I know of pros whose mid winter FTP is lower than that!

I will be doing 3 x 30 in 53/17 at 90+ cadence this afternoon....if I can....the KK computer has now completely stopped working so I need to rely on gearing and cadence to have an idea of how hard i am going....the KK computer is of similar quality to things that come out of christmas crackers ;-)

Change the battery. Mine has worked perfectly since then... Hey Bulldog, or anyone else for that matter, do you think upping the cadence @ FT increases cardiac output and hence buys you a little bit of VO2max improvement?

not really sure - I would guess so - I def notice that higher cadence at FT = higher HR and faster breathing and less leg stress.

A real advantage is that if you get useds to riding / racing at a higher cadence you will find you have less ache and fatigue in your legs the day after a big effort. You will also develop faster acceloration, which can be great for crits, for example.
