You should take him down to the track, teach him how to sprint. There'd be less competition

Nearest one is about 500km away in Indianapolis.

Seems there are 18 velodromes now in the USA, not 12 as I said before.

Could Clinton land the VP nomination?
http://edition.cnn.com/2008/POLITIC...eref=rss_latest

Quote (the bolding is done by me):

Quote:
However, from the perspective of both campaign camps, there is serious concern about the kind of landing she's aiming for and the precarious task of bringing her plane down, especially if she decides to seek the vice presidential nomination. There could be a number of different landings:

• Smooth and skillful, doing the Obama candidacy no further damage and perhaps restoring to relative health the legacy of and regard for Bill and Hillary Clinton in the Democratic Party.

• Explosive, setting down after the enemy has been carpet-bombed (an "October surprise in May"), something the Obama campaign believes may be less and less likely to come from his Democratic opponent because of the dangers to the party and the Clintons' reputation. Yet the Clinton campaign's search for damaging information and its hope that such information exists continues, according to knowledgeable sources. Strategist Harold Ickes, her premier tactical counselor, warned on the eve of the North Carolina and Indiana that Obama could be vulnerable to an "October surprise" by the McCain campaign.

• Missing the runway and destroying the Democratic village, as even her advocates outside her immediate campaign apparat fear could happen if the Clinton campaign continues to pursue a harshly negative course.

• Just bumpy and scary enough to shake the Obama campaign one last time and get her into the hangar as the vice presidential nominee on the Democratic ticket. Increasingly, this is what people in Obama's corner and those who know her well are becoming convinced she will try to do. Part of this assumption is based on her determination to roll up the biggest numbers possible in West Virginia and Kentucky, and Bill Clinton's argument that she may still win a majority of popular votes in non-caucus states.

You should have seen the insanity the past few years about getting our kids into the "magnet" high-school in town. Itis largely based upon a test the kids take in third grade. I mean, third freakin grade. All I want of my kid in third grade is that he not bite the other kids or wet his pants too often. Instead, they have this bullshit pressure to perform or their life will be altered dramatically. One family had their kids study the test 4 hours a day during the summer between second and third grade. That is freakin criminal. We have a major problem in our society and its caused by the parents. We have to learn to chill out and let the kids be kids.

This is not aimed at you C. Its a generalization about this f'ed up world.

So, who has more carbon fiber? You and your bike or your hockey playin kids?
I take no offense and agree wholeheartedly.

All we want is our kid to find a passion in something and have enough skill to make his HIGH SCHOOL team, to hopefully keep him out of trouble during his teen years. A lot of these people really do think they have the next Wayne Gretzky. We're realistic. But, what sucks is that it's to the point that you have to do all of this crazy stuff just to meet that ordinary goal of high school, because of all these other crazies that are raising the Great One.

So, it continues. The game occurred. He only saw 5 shots and let one in. The parent of the other goalie was there watching, even though his kid wasn't there today, just to check out his competition. Friggin' crazy. On Mother's Day to boot.

Our phone has rang twice today from the coach of the other team. The first was, "I really need you to make a decision here. I can't keep stringing this other goalie along." Hubby says, "I understand. It's not my fault. I think it's ridiculous they're stringing MY kid along on this other team but if your kid had the opportunity to play at the highest level, you'd be doing the same exact thing as us." The coach couldn't deny that and hubby told him just to be honest, keep all 3 goalies rostered for now and tell them what is going on with us and this other program. The coach agreed.

So, then our phone just now rings again and the coach says, "I want a decision by tonight." So, now we gotta call that other coach and tell him THEY need to make their move . . . it's all just so ridiculous and such a mess. All because they're still scouting out other goalies . . . for a team of EIGHT YEAR OLDS!!!

Honest to God you're onto something.

If we were really in it for the college scholarship potential, we'd be suiting our daughter up in the hockey goalie equipment. THAT'S the upcoming sport for girls and this is the time . . . but, I can't bear the thought of my precious little girl wearing all of that stinky hockey gear.

And, actually Cranky, the league for this top level team is in BUFFALO, NY!!! Three hours away. Yes, you read that correctly. So, what's driving two more hours to Indy for a track? What the heck, this "off season" tournament in Canada is four hours away.

Hello guys. Just back in sunny Rome following Costa Rica. Great place and great vacation.

Only got in one serious MTB with the locals. Holy moly. I now respect mountain bikers. That stuff is crazy. 30 odd kms in a national park and I could not believe the intensity.

Got to see iguanas, tarantulas and monkeys during the ride, along with a 4km deserted beautiful beach. No complaints here.

Tarantulas? Out in the wild? Hmm, I'll probably skip Costa Rica then. Honestly, I'm shit scared of spiders.

I'm more impressed with the fact that he's mountain biking through Costa Rica with the locals . . . . Personally, I wouldn't be leaving an all inclusive, all-secured resort myself. Apparently, Pete's a bit adventuresome.

Welcome back Pete. Glad you had a nice vacation.

Wow...I would skip any trip involving taratulas myself...eek.

I saw a snake yesterday though...and 2 turtles. Thrilling stuff, I know. The most fun came when the pump for the well went out..so no water...followed by the storms knocking out the electricity. I have survived however! Shouldn't complain as I just read a report that 14 people got killed in southern MO from tornadoes....

Anyway, I'll count my blessings, one of which was that my kids decided not to ride (too rainy) so I don't have bags of muddy gear to deal with...though I think I could smell those two boys from a fair distance! Time to hose'em down..

Happy Mother's Day, C Girl...and Happy Mother Going to Alaska Day to you, Cranky...

The monkeys and iguanas were cool. I must admit that I am no great lover of spiders (especially big hairy ones) but they seemed to be a bit more concerned about my presence than I was of theirs... they left the path rather quickly and I did not give chase...

And C'dale girl, I needed to get out of the all-inclusive resort. There is only so much forced fun that I can take...

edit: Not really worried about the locals, either driving or cycling. Remember that I live in Rome.

Check this one out Cranky. My mom just called hubby today about the fact that hubby and son are going to a goalie clinic in StL in mid-July. She said she was wondering if she could RIDE BACK TO CLEVELAND with them. WHAT???? Open-ended visit? She definitely said she'd stay through our daughter's b-day in early August? AAaauuuggghhh!!!!!

Hubby quickly told her they were going to fly so that wouldn't work. Guess SHE made that decision for him, lol!

Are you kidding me??? That is friggin scary!!! Is she trying to split you guys up ...
