I do like training in the gym though on the CV machines and in the classes (I've done winters in the gym since I was 14). Good fun and you get to meet some new people. I'll only do for a few months in addition to riding the bike.

Not sure if health and safety covers this unless you are in a harness connected to an emergency stop!!! I do have access to the king cycle, monarchs and elec braked bikes. Have been thinking about doing intervals on these and they have the added bonus of power readings and being able to do max tests on them!
The air con is also a bonus!!!

Its a long way down, wouldn't like to fall off!!! Have done a bit of riding on the woodway, but that was using 'supergear' cranks... when you pedal backward your bike goes forward!!!!!!

They are nice to run on though!

>>mornings are always good to train, until it gets very cold! i regularly do up to 3.5-hrs at a steady zone 2 effort on the turbo in the winter

>>no one seemed to mind me doing it without a harness or stop we! did a little study on it too! great fun doing a max test on the woodway. by the time you reach max, it amazing to see how much you wobble and hot the hand rails

>>it is! had to coach quite a few people to use them. much easier than say rollers. the hardest bit is as you stand and you move back slightly -- the trick is not to go off the back... only happened once! seen more people come off the woodway running though!

>>those cranks sound fun... what study was that in aid of?

>>never run on it!

$Your joking, longest I've done was 2.5 hours and that was enough to make me take up golf!!! Turbos are for the hard stuff.

$Don't fancy a max test on the woodway, I like to close my eyes to squeese every ounce of effort out! Did you use an online, I don't fancy looking after douglas bags and a rider at the same time!

$There are 4 on campus of different lengths. The big one would give you lots of room in front and behind the bike. I like rollers, still practicing taking my top off while cycling on them (saw a sprinter do it at the velodrome and no handed is now too easy).

>>those cranks sound fun... what study was that in aid of?

$It was a pants study, based on a study that said at steep gradients its more efficent to walk backwards. The same results weren't found for cycling!!!! What a load of cr@p.

>>nope! one of my friends used to do 5 hrs, and i know an ironman who used to do 8 hrs

>>did most of the work without collecting gases. those that i did i used douglas bags, and sometimes another person to make sure the rider was ok

I only have time for 20 miles in the early AM (on the road by 5:00)before work. I have a set route that I do at least 2-3 days a week and treat it like a TT. I log my times, weather condition and heart rate info. I don't race, but it really made a difference in my ability to hang with the fast guys.

Back from my sanity break!
I felt strong racing on Sat, didn't have the legs for the sprint but had no trouble being in the winning breakaway.
I took a phone call while chasing a bunch on the back straight (received a few stairs from the bunch) but still think I need to work on my leg strength.
Did some laps of the velogrome on Sun as I was rushed form time.
Will ride back when the wind is softer and my bag is lighter (shoes, tolietries, clothes, book etc).

My legs will be sore after the weekend, with my limited training hours what should prioritise?

Thanks

Brian

Back from another Sanity break

Without much sucess at B Grade I've made the move to race A Grade for training purposes.

While I will have trouble finishing for a few weeks, the races will stretch me and improve my Lactate Threadhold.

I didn't finish yesterday, but the race was fast and this bunch worked together (rotated as a bunch should) while B Grade rarely does. I've decided that by training at A Grade pace I will improve my LT and will be a stronger B Grade rider when/if I drop back.

I'll let everyone know what progress I make.

Again I didn't finish on Sat, however my legs are getting stronger and I'm feeling more comfortable in a fast pack.
My CV has dropped away substantially and my lungs ache after each hard ride at the moment.

I've been to the local gym and wasn't overwhelmed but I'm loking to train at some point during the week.

This Sat is Central Division and I should be in C Grade.
