Hey Wiredeud, the guy was balking at even buying a cycle computer, you'll give him a seizure suggesting a KK trainer! Tyson

It might be more economical to get the KKRoad at $275 with a cat eye computer if he uses it for three months and changes his mind he can sell it for about $175 on ebay that would be breaking even compared to GYM membership fees. If he uses it longer than 3 months he is ahead of the game. Not to mention he can put a huge fan in front of the KKR.

Thank you muchos
I will look into the cateye computers. I don't really balk at the idea - it's just that it has to be offset with all the other costs of life/cycling/paintball/rent ya know. Thanks though! |

Yeah, isn't life a bitch having to choose between eating and buying a new set of wheels etc. Over the next 3 weeks I shall get my filthy hands on 2 nice little lump sums and have to decide where to spend some of it on cycling. Most of it will go into an English bank drawing 5.75 interest put aside for my 9 year old daughter's education. Maybe my wife will let me spend some of the interest at the end of the year. She has agreed to let me buy either a KK trainer or a Computrainer. At the moment the latter is ahead, but I need to try them both out when I go back to England next week before making a final decision. I have ummed and ahhed for months now, but decision time is fast approaching. TYSON

you might want to try and look around in the offtopic forums. THey have an investment section and, if you sort through all the grabage, they can sometimes suprise you with some good advice.
I know I'm trying to figure out what to do with student loan money so that I can have some in the bank to open up an acupuncture practice |

IIRC, you don't own a power meter yet, or am I wrong and do you own one now? You can get a KK trainer and a PowerTap Pro with the money worth just one Computrainer... Ken |

No I don't have a power meter as yet. Maybe I'm wrong but as I understand it, you can't preset the power level with the KK trainer like you are able to do with the Computrainer. I'm used to setting the power beforehand on the gym trainer, and there is no mercy once you start. You can't freewheel or rather you can, but try getting back up to the preset power again - it's excruciatingly hard, especially when you are doing intervals at 300 watts. Cheers! Tyson

Things are great living in Painville and though I cannot quote power output numbers at this time it is a good feeling just to look back to last year and see progress from the hard work. This time last summer I was struggling to stay on pace with the slower group in my cycling club and each ride looking at the faster group pulling out of the parking lot and wishing I could ride with those guys. Now I am not only riding with this group, but I am pushing the pace a bit harder for these guys. I like staying up front pulling hard in the paceline and when I have to drop back if there is a small gap toward the front I will slide into it so I can get another turn in front (the guys in the group don't seem to mind).
Lately I have been hearing comments like, "take the epo away from him" which is a joke and a compliment that these guys have noticed a big jump from my barely hanging on in the slower group to now at times making some of these veteran cyclist work a bit harder in the fast group. I know I am still far off from being able to hang with anyone who races, but I am also pretty happy at the moment and have no plans of easing up. I train almost 7 days a week (for the past year) and my legs stay sore or tight, but as long as this body holds up I will stick with mentality of Sillyoldtwit, RapdaddyO, ric and other here that it pays to be consistent and keep pushing hard. It is neat to have some of these local veterans that I looked up to ask me how I am training. That is a good feeling. |

Did your LBS firm up the dates for the Biwaku ride in October? Keeping my schedule clear except for the first weekend (6th-8th) to come up that way. Can't wait to ride in the fall weather when it's not raining any more! VW

Let's say I'm breathing hard at 230watts when I know I can manage a lot higher wattage - what do I do, step it up a few notches and kill myself. No - still to be convinced. Cheers! TYSON ![]()

I suppose I should clarify while still being vague
I realize my initial post implies that I am hammering it 7 days a week, but 3 of those days are at a lower intensity level. Yet I still consider the light intensity days part of my training regiment. I will listen to my body and take off a day if I feel as if I have overreached a little. Anyway, to my amazement things seem to be working well and the success is just breeding more motivation. The most amazing thing is the patience of my wife as she handles load of sweaty clothes and keeps me in a nice stock of clean gear. She deserves the greatest praise in this effort. |

While in the UK, I was thinking of doing a Map test starting at 100Watts and increasing the wattage by 25 watts per minute (split into 2 steps per minute)
Does anyone think this is unwise for someone of 65 years old (on August 12 )and what would it really tell me? TYSON Hey Nomad, Sugaken et al; no riding for us this weekend eh, unless of course you enjoy riding during a typhoon. ![]()

I think you should worry about youself and let others take their chances. I know I asked for advice, but I was assuming I would get a more balanced opinion rather than "It'll kill you". Tyson Btw, someone in your family sent me your photo - a good likeness I would say. ![]()

Yes, Ty, that is my photo, but I must admit that it was taken quite a few years ago. Now, sad to say, I've lost most of my boyish good looks. |
