Bottom line is that it is time for you to stop living in your fantasy world and pretending to have magical powers of seeing into the future. |

A very good point and one point that seems to be missed in all this talk about doping. Years ago it was soigneurs giving out the doses. Riders put their faith in the soigneur getting the dosages correct. Now it appears that "quacks" are administering more potentially harmful drugs (such as HGH) to riders. In some cases they're administering drugs used to treat clinical illnesses, to riders in order to improve sporting performance with little or no cognisance taken of the long term effects of such drugs. The fact that a spate of young, seemingly fit men died from system failure in the mid-1990's in our sport doesn't hinder athletes from doping. And as for transfusing blood! They're playing with fire.

Quote "Team Discovery Channel signed Ivan Basso in November after the Italian cycling federation dropped all inquiries into his alleged involvement in the Spanish Operación Puerto investigation as well as being cleared by the Italian Olympic Committee. Additionally, UCI president Pat McQuaid told the AFP, "The Italians have closed the files on Basso, and he has been cleared to race. The Spanish have also closed files on riders who have been involved." As this continues.......Discovery looks to be in a great place. Discovery's name was never brought up in OP. Discovery ends up with the current premier GT rider. Now we need to free Jan. OP was simply not handled correctly from the beginning. We had the situation of a civil case over riding the needs of procycling. I do not see the UCI being at fault with the handling of the OP information. I see the UCI at fault for not getting a grip on cycling and seeing that it's riders are dealt with evenly and fairly.

The fact that countries vary in their perception and penalties for use of enhancement drugs will continue to widen the gap and muddy the waters. I don't forsee an end all solution in the near future. Certain truths remain. Big money will win out and without the like of ridres such as Basso and Ullrich the sport is as exciting as collecting dog shit . You could certainly eliminate the top tier or so of riders and Charlie Nobody from Bum-F**K Nowhere might have a chance to place but no one will care.

Can't believe a former manager for Discovery was involved in Pantani's death.......
_____ MILAN, Jan 14 (Reuters) - Former disco manager Fabio Carlino was jailed for four and a half years on Monday for dealing drugs and contributing to the death of 1998 Tour De France winner Marco Pantani, the lawyer for the cyclist's family said. Pantani, who also won the Giro d'Italia in 1998, died of a cocaine overdose on Feb.14 2004. His family will receive 300,000 euros ($446,000) in damages. Elena Korovina, a Russian escort, was acquitted of drug dealing at the hearing in Rimini. Pantani's mother, Tonina, said questions still needed to be answered about her son's death. "There are too many mysteries, to start with what happened between Feb. 6 when my son bought the cocaine and Feb. 14 when he died. I will not give up, I want the truth," she told reporters. Family lawyer Danilo Mastrocinque told Reuters: "That is the end of the matter for now. We will see about the future." Drug problems have continued to dog Italian cycling since Pantani's death. The 2006 Giro d'Italia winner Ivan Basso is serving a two-year ban for attempted doping for his involvement in the Operation Puerto doping scandal in Spain. The Italian Olympic Committee's anti-doping prosecutor Ettore Torri told Italian radio on Monday he wanted to talk to Spanish doctors and athletes involved in the scandal as he seeks to open a fresh investigation in Italy. |

They get what they deserve. They have been complicit in the destruction of their own champion. Catalyzing the destruction of what was once a fascinating sport. Making for us to endure year after year of false champions, or "comic book heros" as Pantani himself described a particular one. While they try to recreate a champion of their own, who must by definition be a false champion in an ever more falsified sport. Nice play on the "disco manager" hihi |
