Dubya did use the phrase "stay the course" many times, publicly. Now it's "We've
never been "stay the course"....and it's the Democrats fault?

What are you trying to say, choochoo? That the Dems are feeding him his lines or something?

...c'mon, steve, go easy on him. republicans like positions only so long as they suit their ends. like a commercial i saw while in chicago where the republican ad managed to blame north korea on (please, take a seat for your own safety) bill clinton. can't wait til they blame clinton for the crucifixion. or how they take the position that an invasion of one's privacy should only concern those who have committed crimes, otherwise you would have nothing to hide...kinda like rush limbaugh was so forthcoming with his medical records on his doctor shopping. i'm still laughing at lil w, the flip-flopper in chief.

The Democrats have nothing else. If you look four years ago in 2002, they thought a dead guy and his funeral was going to whisk them to office. That would be the Wellstone Memorial. Two years ago they thought a war hero from Vietnam dressed back up in his military duds was going to whisk them to power. The DumbocRATS also bought into fake service records trumped up by CBS and Dan Rather and that didnt work for them either.Six years ago they thought a DUI story from George Bush's youth was going to whisk them to the White House -- and what today are they thinking? Mark Foley! Mark Foley! Mark Foley! If you take a look at what it is they use to make themselves feel all pumped up and positive and think they've got a chance, it's all of this stuff that has nothing to do with who they are. They are giving no one a reason to vote forthem, and in heated election periods, people vote issues and they want reasons to vote for someone. The Dems may just pull it off NOV 7but if the last 6 years is an indicator, I am guessing they have shot themselves in the foot, once again.

...at least you are being honest in this point. you do not care for truth, honour or morality. all you care for is power and keeping it. if you were truly intent on being caretakers of truth, honour or morality you would have been outraged over the hatchet job your party did on max cleland. all you have done is to point out that the dems do not do as good a job at distorting things for political gain as the republicans. pat yourself on the back the next time you folks get together and talk about how everybody else is walking this country to hell because of their sinfulness.

The truth hurts, eh? The difference between Republicans and Democrats is this:
Republican: Panders to the conservative base during elections.

Democrat: Panders to the conservative issues with Republicans during elections.

Thats why the Dems havent won a thing in six years and it hasnt been any different so far this election period. I just call it like I see it.

My suspicion is Islamic terrorism was, more than likely, motivated out of the sanctions against Iraq. The prolonged suffering within Iraq through sanctions caused a lot of mistrust and bitterness in the Arab World.
I didn't exactly oppose the First Gulf War but I think the prolonged sanctions that followed motivated a lot of extremists.
Of course, I'm aware there are many other factors but it's possible 9/11 might not have happened if Clinton had given way and ended those sanctions that were crippling children more than it harmed Saddam.
The whole policy over Iraq has been a shambles from beginning to end and it was better under Saddam than it is today, I reckon.

The sanctions imposed on Iraq were actually pushed through the UN during 1988-1992 US presidency.

It is true that these sanctions continued during the 1992-2000 US presidency.

The New York attacks happened at 11th September 2001.

The invasion of Iraq took place in March 2003.

There was no tit for tat as you put it.

There was a cosy relationship between both sides from 1979-1991.

You suggested that the September 11th attacks happened because of Iraq (the invasion).

You seem to now suggest that the September 11th attacks were as a result of the Iraq sanctions.
I am not sure if the sanctions played their part, to be honest.
The sanctions cannot have helped, certainly.

I do agree with you with regard to the "western" (Britain/USA) policy on Iraq.
It has been a total shambles.
Hard as it is to admit, I do think that the average Iraqi was probably better off under Saddam, that he/she is now.
And that's saying something.

Granted, the dem's don't have a monopoly on genius but more importantantly, they don't have a monopoly on the disastrous policies put forward in the last 6 yrs. The Repub's own those decisions.

One thing is to have a war. Saddam invaded Kuwait so there was some justification for the first Gulf War (conspiracy theories excluded for the time being).
However, the ongoing sanctions against Iraq upset a lot of people. It was mean and vindictive in the extreme. There were children who were short of medicine in hospitals within Iraq, sanitation problems, premature death and pollution.
Obviously, I can't prove the sanctions were the motive for 9/11 but I figure such an ongoing situation could generate a lot of hatred. I don't know whether 9/11 would have taken place if the U.S. had ended sanctions against Iraq.
The truth is oil was put before human life by big business - the kind of situation the Marxists warned of years before.
I suspect Bush believed he could pull U.S. troops out of the region altogether by setting up a puppet regime in Iraq so he could end sanctions. So, I'm saying I see Bush and Clinton as equally guilty, I suppose.

You have a good point but if we are talking about policies/issues lets take a look at Clintons 8 years as "Falsifier in Chief".

February 26, 1993 A bomb explodes in the basement of the World Trade Center in New York, killing 6 and wounding more than a thousand.
President: Clinton
Response: Never went to NY to visit the sight. Later 2 suspects where tried and arrested for the attack.

March 8, 1995 Two U.S. diplomats are killed in Karachi, Pakistan.
President: Clinton
Response: Nothing

June 25, 1996 A fuel truck explodes outside the United States military's Khobar Towers building, killing 19 military personnel and wounding 515.
President: Clinton
Response: Nothing

November 12, 1997 Four U.S. businessmen are killed in Karachi, Pakistan by members of the Islamic Revolutionary Council.
President: Clinton
Response: Nothing

August 7, 1998 In near simultaneous explosions at U.S. Embassies in Tanzania and Kenya, Al Qaeda terrorists kill 291 and wound 5,000 in Kenya and kill 10 and wound 77 in Tanzania
President: Clinton
Response: Clinton lobbed a few Cruise Missles at UBL's training camps in Afghanistan.

October 12, 2000 The U.S.S. Cole, a destroyer in the United States Navy, is rammed by a boat full of explosives in the harbor of Aden, Yemen. 17 sailors are killed and 39 more are injured. Al Qaeda is suspected.
President: Clinton
Response: Nothing

NO WONDER WHY HE DIDNT SCREW ANY OF THESE UP ... HE NEVER TRIED!

So how many of those missions has dubya accomplished? That's assuming he has any idea what those missions were in the first place.

the president said. "If by stay the course, they mean that we're not learning from our experiences, or adjusting our tactics to meet the challenges on the ground, then they're flat wrong." (Washington-CNN)

Like I said, I still have little faith in the overall integrity issue here, but it's a little silly to argue about semantics here. Might as well keep the argument to the outright lies (not the ones able to be obscured in semantics) - which of course are readily available.
The only thing ChimpCo has "been about" vis-a-vis Iraq since March 2003 is staying there indefinitely. They've used every lie in the book to justify why they invaded. They wanted control over the oil, billions/trillions of dollars drained from US taxpayers, and a military staging area in the middle of the Mid East.

There is no other way to slice n' dice it. GWB owns "stay the course". He's made damned sure he's drilled that into everyone's head, until now when he's being forced by his own side to face reality.

Like the spoiled frat-boy that he is, Preznit Shit For Brains will now receive his Merkel-esque shoulder massage from James Baker to make everything OK.
