I always eat when I am hungry, I don't eat if I am just bored, like grazing which is the worse thing. I dont keep sweets, cookies, desserts softdrink etc.. in the house.

Being hungry is your body telling you it needs nourishment so feed it, Your choice of food fruit, vegies, meat, complex carbs is good. I consider anything refined like crisps, deep fried food, stuff loaded with sugar cookies etc..taboo. The exclusion food/supplement bars when riding.

If you don't eat muscle atrophy can also occur.
I think it comes down to choice of food that is important and not how much you eat.

1) Balance of food
2) Don't skip meals especially breakfast. If I'm running late too bad I sit down and eat first.
3) Take lunch to work that way you make sure its healthy and eat it.
3) Develop good eating habits, I mean good clean nourishing food.
4) Don't be a total food snob.. 1 Day a week eat whatever you like and enjoy it. this is usually a night I eat out with friends etc.

It al becomes routine after a while and its not too hard.

These are purely suggestions, you decide whats best for you.

NAH....eat stake eveyday and drink beer! It's good for ya.

haha I agree, I eat just about everything and burn it all off. I'm just lazy and would not say no to a steak if one magically appeared at the dining table everyday.

As for the frothy chops (beer) I havn't aquired a strong taste for it but does go well with some meat!

Your body burns alot of fuel during sleep, so you need food to be good during those hours.

While is sounds like the wrong thing, eating every 2 hours right up to the point of bedtime is the way to go and lose weight (as long as you're following an excercise routine)
Yeah you are right, I should have answered more direct to the post question.I must have been starving and halucinating when I posted. I usually tell this to my lazy ass friends who don't do any excercise and complain about being fat. So all present company excluded.. I don't believe in starving one self. Binging or Boredom eating no.
For Fit Cyclists. Eating when hungry yes!!. it is the bodies way of telling us to refuel and supply nourishment for recovery. I don't mind sleeping on a full meal especially after a long day riding or doing other excercise.Eat everything in sight!! anytime you wan and have a beer.

A lot of diet information is based on reducing fat levels, if you are happy with your fat levels, then go for it.

As a cross trainer, I need a diet thats a little different to a straight cyclist diet, however I have learnt to turn a problem into an opportunity and feeling hungry can be an excuse to eat junk or it can be used as an opportunity to put something decent in you. A strategy for the before bed hunger attack is to eat something like a small tub of cottage cheese or if thats not appealing to you then some yoghurt, I eat those low sugar ones but this depends on how much sugar you perfer in your diet.

Dave,

First thing is congrad's on your current success. You've dropped a huge amount already.

I'd say that you likely know what works for you based on your past experience. If you have been eating at night everything seems to be working for you.

The big thing is that those last 8 pounds will take months to lose. If you could throw in some LSD (long slow distance rides) in the next few months that might help but the lose will be VERY gradual. On the LSD ride don't ride hard at all and don't over eat after the ride. Your muscles shouldn't really be sore after the ride just a little bit tired (no muscle breakdown just calories burnt). I know its very old school but its worked for me in the past (5'11-145lbs when I was training and working everyday).

The foods i choose to eat are what i consider healthy. fruit, complex carbs ect.
