It would be nice if things were that simple. 9 out of 10 Thylacines go to overseas buyers, so the local market is bordering on insignificant.

For 15 years the local press has been happy with the odd 'Buy Aussie' article every 3 years, but I couldn't give a shit about that parochial patriotic bullshit. Thylacines are ace becuase I design them and I've got the best people involved every step of the way, it's got nothing to do with patriotism, guilting people into supporting local producers or any of that rubbish.

Word-of-mouth just seems to be the most 'trust-worthy' and most broad reaching form of promotion. I'm highly skeptical of magazines and virtual media after being told how prevalent 'cash-for-comment' was and also how difficult it's been to get any coverage.

There's just a steep learning curve for me I guess over the next 18 months. This oughta be fun.

Yeah, I had similar probs in my business... we had more than 95% sales offshore, Europe and the USA. The locals treated us like an easy push over and always tried to screw us for extra free support, stupidly low prices etc etc. I think they thought we were a struggling local small business. Sad really. We had plenty of respect from some very big players OS. We ended up selling the business to a US company that recognised it's worth.

The local industry rags were a joke. You pay for an ad or two and you basically get to write articles about how great you are, they just put one of their "journos" names on it. Sick. Oddly, the US trade journals were of a much higher standard.

As for the oz government and it's support....... (I'll try to calm down now).

Tatgate continues to evolve. Even Exxy's deleting parts of posts and links to the Tan now to minimise the fallout. Hell, I think we really can bring down the POTUS.

Saccy, I can see what you mean. No longer is the perfect antidote to innane questions and threads instantly available to the poor saps in the bf road forum. Oh well, their loss...maybe thay can learn why it is called the WORLD wide web and find us in our new home.

OK track/SS freaks, I'm on the hunt for new spokes for the track bike after busting the head off one on the front wheel. Seems the junk they put on in the factory is a bit weak/crappy.

Any recommendations over straight DT Swiss stainless?
Anything to avoid in the DT Swiss product range?
Is tying and soldering the rear worth the effort (I'm not a wheel-breaker by any means)?

Know bugger all about spokes, though never had issues with straight DT's, and I'm currently in the super heavy weight division. Even raced at 95kg a few years back, no probs, though the bloke who built my wheels is a very good wheelbuilder.

I always tie and solder track wheels. Bugger what some of the tests say, I reckon it makes a difference laterally, especially when you are off the seat winding a sprint up. One bonus though is you are almost certain at some stage to cop a pedal in wheel on the track. Tie and soldering helps stop the spokes flopping around when they break.
