I had smoked from the age of 18 to the age of 24, about 1 pack a day. The way I quit was one day I was driving down the street in my truck, I looked over at the pack of cigarettes and the lighter on the dash. I had an instantaneous urge to pick them up and chunk them out the window, which I did. I never bought another pack of cigarettes. That's been seven years ago.
P.S. I gained 50 lbs in the few months afterward, which lately I've lost 25 of. Last edited by brad g : 18-08.-2006 at 04:25 AM. |

I quit just over a year ago when I was 44 years old. I had been smoking since I was 13 or so. Took that long to finally get tired of it enough to quit. Now I'm riding a Trek hybrid on the rail trail whenever I'm home ( truck driver ) trying to lose the weight I gained on top of the flab I had before I quit. Best thing I ever did was quit. Now I can live long enough to be a burden to my children.

i quit 6 weeks ago from a 40 a day habit. the first week was hell but now i only think about it 2 or 3 times a day now and there not major cravings just little niggles. to be honest its not as hard to give up as the media and government makes you believe. maybe they dont want to lose their tax money. and i treated myself to a giant xtc carbon on the day i quit just to put that little bit of pressure on myself to use the money i would spend on ciggies and pay off the bike so there was no going back i couldnt afford to do both.

have you set a day yet. also read a book called the easy way to give up smoking by allen carr. its amazing i thought i was one of these peopple who could never give it up i was certain that i was going to die from lung cancer in my 50s or 60s all of my family thought the same. i really used to enjoy it, it was the only unhealthy thing i did. i dont even drink. to be honest i really enjoyed smoking, but i read half this book and that was it i stopped. good luck. where abouts are you i could send you the book.

I smoked for about 7 years, about 35 a day at worst. I did use nicotine gum to help stop, and to be honest I would recommend it, particularly if you have a stressfull job / life style. On good days it's easy to stay off them, but on bad days I'm afraid help is often required, the gum managed that quite well for me. |
