Hardtail with a shock seatpost, that's my choice.

I owned a hardtail about 15 years ago, maybe 20. I loved it. I recently got back into mountain biking and had to go with a mtn. bike with a front shock. I ride with it mostly in lock out most of the time. I personally would say hardtail but I'm sure it depends on your riding style. Chances are that there is a LBS that would rent you both until you make up your mind. Good luck, Greg
