It's kind of like the principle if your hand hurts stomp on your foot and that pain will distract from the pain in your hand If my ears and mind are discomforted by the music maybe I won't feel the pain in the legs. You have Miley Cyrus in the pain zone? Who are you to question my lineup? This is a topic that few will totally agree.

I'm with you on this, Piotr. I never listen to music while riding outdoors or indoors. I don't get Novocain at the dentist's either, whether it's a cavity being drilled or even having a tooth ground down to a nub for a cap. I think dealing with the pain one-on-one without distractions is good training, for a lot of things. |

I tried the music option last night and cranked out a 1hr NP of 179 watts! I did solid tempo pace with a hardish 2-min push every 15 mins.
I had to laugh - it was a Triple J Hottest 100 disc (Vol 3, Disc 1). It was a bit close to the bone though when "Blubber Boy" started playing Anyway, after that effort I thought it was time to try and ride outdoors. A quick swap over of my special crank arm to my training bike this morning and off we go. So I drove to Centennial Park and did 45-min on a real bike on a real road riding through real air. All that realism was "unreal". It is also exactly 15 months to the day since my accident. An NP of 182 watts and a peak 5-min of 250+W. I want to post details to my blog but I'm in the middle of changing ISPs and so my online access is limited at the moment. That will have to wait. Still some technical challenges to work on (e.g. I can't pedal standing up at the moment) and some comfort issues to work through. |

Your story is a pretty inspirational sequel to Tyson's. If Tyson can overcome his mars bar addiction and achieve epic power levels in the land of the sun, certainly an aussie can do the same. Honestly, when I bitch about having to deal with work and other issues to get out there and ride, it will help to think that other riders are dealing with bigger obstacles. Good luck, and thanks for posting. |

I have to admit that I had the Kylie Minogue, La, La, La song in the pain zone back in the day for the same reason. I could also summon images of the video if I had to, which would exclude Mylie for me. If I have to go ipod, I do recommend "Gimme Shelter" as a pain zone standard today. |

Of course (and S.O.T., you're one to talk)! Aren't all of us in here affected with it to some extent? It seems like it would be a requirement in order to train the way we do. It's ironic, but certain personal characteristics that are ordinarily taken as negatives are actually positives in moderate doses. |

After a rest day yesterday, I went to the Park again today for an hour long ride.
This time an NP of 190 watts! Yikes, I'll have to reset my FTP I'm closing in on 2W/kg Lots of riders circulating but no bunches which was good as I continually had carrots to chase down. Best thing is being physically tired and some muscle soreness but nothing too uncomfortable. Just being used to riding on the saddle takes some time to adjust and since standing to pedal is not an option at the moment, I don't get much relief on my oversized backside Gunna have a race next weekend. A local crit. Maybe a go at the track as well this week. |
