My first wife is a J.A.P. (at least that is what she called herself) from Bawston.
Her nose is a little bigger than the typical Japanese girl's. I wished someone in my past geneaology had of mixed it up a little. I have the whitest non-tannable skin around and it sucks to have to lather up with a 200 spf sunblock to go out at night.

And, no, despite my wife's heritage, no member of her family, on either side, ever threw or hit me with a pot. On my Irish side, I have been hit with a beer bottle or two, but it was usually for something serious like saying Bushmills is better than Jamesons, wearing Orange on St. Patrick's Day, or by suggesting that Cromwell was just a little misunderstood. Alright y'all, pour on the Polish jokes!.. I've heard them all and it made my skin like that of an armadillo (BTW, I'm not a plumber but indeed, my Polish wife is a nurse.

Sorry to interrupt this lively skin colour conversation, but would anyone be offended if I mentioned something about cycling?
Music and the importance thereof. I always remember RapDaddyo at the beginning of this thread when I was doing 140Watt L4 intervals, telling me to not be too ambitious and to keep it at 140W, because I would derive a lot of benefit by doing so. In keeping with this philosophy, this morning I was purposely doing my L4 intervals at a low wattage. Anyway, even at this low wattage (290 W) I was beginning to mentally flag in the middle of the second interval, when all of a sudden 'The Bucket' by the Kings Of Leon was the next track up. Wow, I did a Landis and belted the rest of the interval with the help of the next track -'Diamond' by Battles. Again in the 3rd interval I started to mentally wilt, when up popped an old inspirational favourite of mine - 'Holding Out For A Hero' by Bonnie Tyler, and I was off like I had a firecracker up my rear end. The point I'm making is, that without the music I probably wouldn't have completed 2 intervals, never mind 3. I appreciate that music might not work for everybody, but if you haven't already tried doing your intervals to music, give it a whirl - it works. Tyson ![]() P.S. Music does help I was surprised at the mellow selection of music RD used at the time but I find my selections getting that way to. Especially during the first 20 minutes of a one hour effort I'm better off with easy listening or no music at all to find the right pace. On the trainer trance helped with the harder efforts but on the DIY free motion rollers just taking a drink or getting out of the saddle is great entertainment and I go for an hour without a break.
Ooops I almost forgot FWIW my wife is pure Sicilian. Quote:

As a newbie to regular indoor workouts, I have set up my training room with music and video capabilities.
So far it's been TdF highlight DVDs and definitely the power goes up as the ride approaches the sprint! I haven't yet tried the music approach yet. I do like riding along with the other riders on video, so I could probably do with some additions to my paltry collection. I'll give the music a go soon and see how I get on. |

I have my ipod shuffled lined up with 60 minutes of music selected for various types of intervals. I have listened to the same tracks on each indoor training session for the last 6 months and the tracks have not become old to me yet.
The tracks that I use are not music that I would typically listen to off the bike, but on the bike, like Tyson says, it can amp up the effort level a notch or two more. The training session this morning was one of those exceptional efforts that was very discomforting during, but pleasing sense of accomplishment at the end.

The HBO shows, the Wire, Sopranos, etc, were all good, and I also like Weeds, but it is a half hour. Some of my best rides were watching shows that I really enjoyed. I also like to watch sports and do intervals during commericals. I find music alone to be a little tougher. |
