![]() But seriously you can feel during your L4 training what you probably can do... With my 2x20min I can go above my FTP. But when I am not really fresh and do a 2x30 I know I can do a 60min test at that pace. Yesterday I did 2x20min@330watts. Next week I am going to try to do a 2x30min @ 330w. When that's possible I can try it at a 1x60min. I see a 60min FTP test as a 60min L4 training but with a lot of pain in the last 20 minutes...

Sorry FR, I missed your post. 78kg at 5'6" makes me feel much better and as for Mister Donuts, I think I've cracked that addiction. Roll on 74kg! (first target)

and puttin' a hurtin' on some of my riding buddies. By the way I read your last ride description you got plenty of engine to frustrate those in your area, but I like how you are always relentlessly pushing yourself.

The first time I get sick all year and so much happens...I did not even see these posts. I lost my second day of riding and bouncing off walls. I notice every time I hit about 102 CTL my body starts to crash, first time I got a cold.
Also I am from Brooklyn, I live in Manhattan now but only a transplant would call themself a New Yorker. As for the term "anal" I thought everyone used it and it is a compliment as kopride pointed out. It can be used in a negative way but not in this context. As for Philly, I filmed a horror prison film in Holmsberg(??) outside of Philly. People were real nice there and helped us out quite a bit. Philly is a cute town...they are still waiting on those eagles... ...well atleast it is not Boston... ...you see I am from Brooklyn. The best for me was when I was riding through this town in MD and it was lots of farmland. Stopped for a gatorade and spoke with the store clerk and said I was from NYC. She looked at me with a strange look and seriously asked me if I am carrying a gun...all you guys from NYC carry guns...we hear it on TV. Now talk about prejudice... Given my anal personality when it comes to working out I will eventually hit that 300 ftp... -js Quote:

It's the old yin/yang thing, which SOT should know quite well. Any extreme carries within it the seeds of its own destruction. So just when you are feeling superfit, and you finish a hard workout and actually think about doing it again, you are closer than ever to breaking down. |

Well I weighed in at 74.3 this morning! A kilo (2.2lbs) down from yesterday.
I hear the chorus saying that's too fast, but I'm willing to temporarily sacrifice some power in order to get the weight down. The power can be worked on at a later date. Roll on 73 Kilos! TysonP.S. Paul I hereby retract my challenge. If you are doing regular L4 intervals at 330watts then you definitely have an insurmountable lead over me. Let's just see who can reach a 350Watt FTP first - if at all. One month before Lake Biwa in October I intend to be doing L5 workouts around 400watts which should help to drag up the FTP.

![]() ![]() I can do 2x20min@330w but I was riding hard, too hard I think (above FTP). Hope to do a 60min 330w test soon. But don't have the time.... Next week is my last week of hard training for La Marmotte. Then I go on vacation and do La Marmotte (July 5th) and chill out for 3 weeks in the French alps. 400 watts for VO2max efforts sounds awesome. I want to do that too!! After my vacation I will focus on shorter efforts and timetrial efforts. I will try to do some timetrials to look how I do it compared to the local cat1 guys. Last tuesday I did the VO2max efforts with 380watts. So 400 watts is only 5.3% more. ![]()

I found that this week, when I start a few weeks of weight loss style eating, the first week always drops like 2 kilos. I consider this just my body having less food in it at any time without any real 'fat' being lost. Not dehydrated either, and not starving myself that's for sure ![]()

You hit it on the head! Just last week I felt I could conquer the world, I had the most amazing cross workout ever last Saturday. I even jogged! I never jog. In the past the once or twice I tried I always thought I sounded like a clydesdale on the trainer.
But it all came crashing down thursday night. While I still do not have a fever, I continue with the "runs" which makes me feel weak combined with a headache. I am going to try and just do a 150 today in the gym for an hour and see how it feels. If it does not feel right I will just stretch today. I can not stay in that bed any longer as my muscles are just getting worse being in that position all day. I have learned my lesson. It was a combination of the overtraining and other people in my office having a cold. Because my body was in a weaker condition than them, I got hit much harder. -js Quote:

Me and Dave went back and forth on this quite a bit and he did exactly as Paul suggested loosing it slowly over serveral months.
I am sure ko and felt will tell you that you should be focusing on bodyfat% more than just weight as water weight comes and goes quickly. Even if you buy a scale that may not be 100% accurate at bodyfat. A number is just a number and as long as you use the same scale at the same time of day it can work as a good number to work with accurate or not. I think if you do like Paul is suggesting you will not see power drop atleast not dramatic. -js Quote:

Just so you know you have company On my blog I have mentioned struggling with fatigue and possibly a low grade illness. My instincts were telling me for the last two weeks to back off a little, but do I listen to myself? No!! I had planned to go to a rails to trail, which is ultra flat and do some easy spinning while most of my normal group is doing a mountain ride, but instead I joined another group this morning and barely was able to hang on the back most of the time-ARGHHH!!!!. Mentally I am still driven, but my body has about had it. I would say today I just dug my hole a little deeper today. But if I had a choice I suppose I would rather be struggling physically than be struggling with mental burn out and mentally I am still very eager to progress and frustrated that I can't push my body like I want at the moment.

From reading what you guys are saying, I guess I'm not working hard enough.
Must up things a bit I reckon. We're in the middle of the rainy season here in Japan, so most work will be done indoors over the next few days. Sorry guys - too risky in the mountains with rivers of mud streaming across the narrow climbs. Must get on and do an L4 workout. Feel inspired this morning. Tyson ![]()

My body has always been a bit strange when it comes to colds. It always goes through stages where it always affects my stomach which in the end makes the whole recovery process take longer. I was really making some great progess in recent weeks and it makes this cold hurt all that much more...ARRRGGH!! -js |
