Long course triathlete (HIM 4hs4x, IM 10hs44)
Age: 43 Mass: 67/68 1 min = 485 5 min = 309 20 min = 269 FT (20 min - 5%) = 246 FT (CP as linear regresion from 1 y 5 min, both in the same test) = 242 (R2=1 )Which one would be a better guess ? Ale. |

Currently:
5sec 1144 1min 479 5min 340 FT 274 65kg 3rd year racing, currently a new Cat 2. I come from a fairly successful track and field background at distances from 400m to 1000m (races from 47 sec to under 2:30 in duration). I find it curious that my 1 minute power is by far the weakest, considering my fortes in track. It is not simply a matter of inaccurate testing results, as 1 minute power is my most tested duration. I've been emphasizing L6 workouts as a result. |

Cat 3 road, Expert MTB, Cat A Collegiate
Weight: 73-75 Kg FTP: 365 watts 20 min: 388 watts 5 min: 435 watts 1 min: 634 watts 5 sec: 1195 watts Obviously lacking in the sprint area, but working on that. It really sucks that you can be a great TT rider and breakaway rider, but unless you get in the right move, it don't matter in the end unless you can sprint! |

Sorry to be such a dork but what is functional threshold power? Am I correct in thinking this is the amount of power you can keep up for x mins? How many mins is considered to be a normal amount of time? Billyboy. |

So, if you're a super freak (cough cough... Nathan O'Neil...cough cough) and a 40k may only take you 45 odd minutes, do you use that for FT, or adjust to 1-hr? |

well I think even Nate is closer to 50min than 45. I'd suggest he find a 50k TT to ride ![]() Seriously, I suspect AC would say the P-D curve is flat enough from 50-65min that the error introduced by using either end of that range isn't important. After all, our PM's are roughly +/- 2% inaccurate ... that's another reason why I always round my FT off to the nearest 5W. I'd recommend keeping one's approach to determining FT as consistent as possible over time. That way fitness changes are more clearly distinguishable from 'noise'. rmur |
