Couple bites already - folks that didn't find it under the old classification - or maybe just didn't bid. Come on - what's your reserve? |

User ID Bid Amount Date of bid
relliottmd ( 581) US $2,000.00 Dec-21-05 17:34:30 PST 1st-floor-john ( 175) US $1,600.00 Dec-21-05 17:25:51 PST In the last minute of the auction (literally) somebody put in a bid higher than the reserve (which must have been $2000 based on the second highest bidders price). Congrats Cinelli James! Don't spend it all in one place. |

Can i ask a totally mental question here? its been bugging me for ages and then i spotted this thread i thought, what the hell..
i have a few bike racing friends who refer to the Cinelli brand and pronounce it 'Sinelli' and a few other who swear that it is pronouced the Italian way 'Chinelli' with a hard 'Ch' at the beginning like cheese.. which is it? i was reading the Greame Obree story and it charts his early years competing in races on a 1950's Cinelli TT bike...and its bugging me..

Great question .....I go hard on the "ch" ....But I might be wrong .... It might be a slight combination of the two .... I think we need to do a road trip to Cinelli factory and ask ......ROAD TRIP !!!!!!!!!!!!

Yes, it's like "cheese" and you kind of hold the double L for just a bit longer than you might otherwise. That's the standard Italian pronunciation and would be completely correct in most of north central Italy. There are distintive accents from other parts of the country but "SSinelli" is definitely wrong. |

However there is a unique situation when the reverse is true..... It is pronounced "SSINelli" when purchased behind the spouses back.......Well, maybe it's not a sin unless you get caught carrying it in the house..... I still think a ROAD TRIP is needed to ask them in person ...... And it would't hurt to swing by the DeRosa factory either . Just in case we need to pronounce that too.......

Thanks DiabloScott. A fellow from Georgia purchased the bike and he's very pleased. I'm glad someone can enjoy the bike for what it's for - to be rode. I'm more of an art collector so that's where the money is going. Cheers.

There's also that Ser"OH"ta/Ser"AH"ta thing, and, what is the proper pronounciation of "Ciocc"? Does the umlat change the sound of the o?
Sounds like we've got to go to upstate NY, and all over italy on this road trip to get the right answers. And which syllable should you stress in "Nagasawa"? I guess we'll have to hit Osaka while we're at it. Quote:

Yes, big Italian community brought cycling to Canada, and supported a great deal of races and activities.
That Cinelli, set it up better (drop the bars) and take a big picture of the chrome fast-back seat lug and make sure you put that in the auction photo. don't know if you still have it, but try re-listing it again..It should reach $1,500 USD. It has been ridden as that front tire is a 1984-ish model...not original to spec. But, a beauty anyways. I'd still love to ride one for kicks (I started cycling in the early 80s...on a lugged Colnago). |
