...........and on a more mundane subject about Bush's presidency, I see the October 2005 monthly budget deficit hit $66 billion.
In simple terms - America imported $66 billion more than it exported in one month. Adding the October deficit to the years of other monthly deficits, US overall deficit is approaching $800 billion. and he started in office with a $200 billion surplus, carried over from Bill Clintons excellent management of the US economy.

Incredible, isn't it? A $0.8 trillion deficit with a GDP of around $12 trillion, which equals approx. 6.7% of the GDP - a not insignificant chunk of the total U.S. output of goods and services which essentially negates any growth the economy might have shown. Which is worse: an old-style "tax & spend" liberal, or the modern version "cut taxes & borrow" GOP?? If I had to choose, I'd rather pay the taxes as I go and not have the interest on the mountainous debt. Looks like 'Murca is soon to become the 2000's version of 1980's Argentina. The Fed's artificial repression of interest rates is the only thing keeping runaway inflation at bay, but that can't last much longer.

That's what the apologists will tell you - it's only 6-7% of GDP. Which might be a plausible excuse if it wasn't for the fact that GDP in the USA is not growing significantly in the last number of years. Also it doesn't preclude the fact that that money (deficit) is owed and has to be repaid, either now or in the future. As regards US interest rates, they're going to go up for the forseaable future which will make repayments on eisting personal debt higher.

Yes, and the fun part is: the middle-class Bush voters who thought their miniscule "tax cut" was actually worth something will soon be forking more than that back over to the banks in the form of higher interests on their loans. Dumb asses.
