"Those are real problems? You're a spoilt kid who doesn't know how lucky he is."
Really? Tell that to the elderly man that the N.O. police beat up recently. Or to the people that died and nearly starved to death, got raped, etc. when anarchy ruled there. So, you're suggesting to ignore the criminal gov't in power now, letting them run their course until their terms are up? Doesn't work that way where I come from. Maybe your country could do something with their gold and diamonds instead of profiting DeBeers quite so much? If you want to talk about "spoilt kids", let's not forget to mention the biggest fratboy punk of them all - Smirk W. Chimp.

Right-wingers love to bash lefties (like a certain yours truly) for our lack of BIG NEW IDEAS. Universal health care? So 1990's. Protect and strengthen Social Security? 1930's! Create a national energy policy based on something other than plunder, waste and war? 1970's! Where are the BIG NEW IDEAS? That's easy - they're over there on the other side of the aisle, on the bleeding edge of political change. Here are some beauties they've rolled out just in the last week! 1) PERJURY? IT'S A "TECHNICALITY"! On yesterday's "Meet the Press," "Big Idea" Republican Kay Bailey Hutchinson told America that lying before a Grand Jury on a matter of national security is a - NEW IDEA INBOUND - "technicality!" (Hutchinson) "I certainly hope that if there is going to be an indictment that says something happened, that it is an indictment on a crime and not some perjury "technicality" where they couldn't indict on the crime so they go to something just to show that their two years of investigation were not a waste of time and dollars." Hey, if a little "perjury between friends" is allowable, what's next? "Good-natured and friendly grand theft auto"? "Trifling, get-off-with-a-warning aggravated assault"? "Technicality homicides"? Man, with big new ideas like this, we can clear up those court backlogs in no time! Too bad Bill Clinton didn't come up this big idea in time to fend off "rule of law" Republicans like (cough) hypocrite (cough) Kay Bailey Hutchinson... 2) TREASON? NO BIG DEAL! It's been pretty well-established that Dick Cheney's hatchet man "Scooter" Libby and Bush's Brain, Karl Rove dialed up a passel of Beltway media insiders with the message that the covert status of CIA operative Valerie Plame was "fair game." They perpetrated this little phone prank because Plame's hubby ratted the Bushies out on their claim that Saddam was hell-bent on acquiring the radioactive goodies needed to nuke the crap out of America, and therefore we absolutely had to invade Iraq right this very second. Ratting out Agent Plame blew her covert operations, and put the lives of every person working with her in jeopardy. REPUBLICAN NEW IDEA - "Hey, it's just politics!" Right-wing sock puppet William Kristol framed this exciting "new idea" in one of his columns for the "Weekly Standard": "Defending one's bosses against criticism, and debunking their attackers, is not a criminal conspiracy. Spin is not perjury. Political hardball is not a felony Yeah! So the identity of a covert CIA operative was blown by a little good-natured "spin"! So clandestine American agents were put in mortal jeopardy by a little "political hardball"! Lighten up, people! Politics ain't beanbag, ya know! I guess this Republican "BIG NEW IDEA" effectively puts treason in the "technicality" category. Another non-crime that won't clutter our courts! Is this exciting, or what! 3) JUDGE DOESN'T BELONG TO YOUR POLITICAL PARTY? DEMAND A NEW ONE! I'm sure you know that Republican Poster Boy Tom "The Hammer" DeLay appeared in court Friday as a criminal defendant for his (REPUBLICAN NEW IDEA ALERT!) using the Republican Party as a Financial Launderette for corporate mega-bucks to finance his pet projects, including the gerrymandering of Texas so as to create more safe Republican districts. When The Hammer appeared in court, his lawyer demanded a new Judge, because (horrors) Judge Bob Perkins is rumored to have donated to certain pro-Democrat websites. Here's an exciting BIG NEW REPUBLICAN IDEA I love. Say I get arrested for...oh let's see..."Felony Singing In A Public Place While Attired In A Swimsuit." (This is actually against the law in Florida, where else.) Let's say I draw some hatchet-faced, humorless, Bible-thumping Bush-appointed right-wing legal hack determined to "make an example" of me. Hey, I can invoke the "DeLay Exemption" and demand a zany, soft-on-crime, Kumbaya-singing bleeding heart liberal judge to match my political views! 4) MIDDLE CLASS TAX PAYERS DON'T PAY ENOUGH, SO LET'S GET RID OF THE HOME MORTGAGE INTEREST DEDUCTION! Hey, homeowners, get ready for the greatest Republican BIG NEW IDEA since Social Security Private Accounts! President Bush's "Tax Advisory Commission," headed by Republican (natch) former Senator Connie Mack, is coughing up the "tax reform" hairballs force-fed to him by Grover Norquist and other flat-taxers. The BIG NEW IDEA? The Bushies want to pry the home mortgage interest deduction from the cold, dead fingers of middle-class taxpayers. Why? Gotta pay for them tax cuts he gave to Kenny-Boy Lay, Bill Gates and Donald Trump somehow, doncha know! Can't WAIT for Republican Senators and Congressmen to campaign on this one in 2006! 5) GET RID OF THE CORPORATE TAX EXEMPTION FOR PROVIDING EMPLOYEES WITH HEALTH INSURANCE! The Republicans have identified a problem that many progressives have failed to notice - TOO DAMN MANY AMERICANS HAVE HEALTH INSURANCE! That must be why Bush's Tax Advisory Commission wants limit (and eventually eliminate) the tax breaks that corporations get for offering their employees health insurance. Now there's some innovation that will have an IMPACT! Right now we've got about 46 million uninsured people in America. With this BIG IDEA, we can push it past 80! These BIG NEW REPUBLICAN IDEAS now join the other Republican innovations that can now be called "mature":

..that is if one doesn't happen to live in a country that was founded upon seperation of state and religion, for very good reason I might add so that the likes of pat robertson is not the one to profit from others troubles. This is the same guy who once had his organization on the fema website (after Katrina)until my compatriots called foul and had his profit machine removed from it. This is the same person who advocates asasssination. Do you, CR, subscribe to pat robertson and his african gold mining operation errr...700 club organization ![]()

The US was founded on separation of church and state? Is that why the revolution was fought? Hmmmm.....I thought it was fought over taxation without representation. Guess you would have been on the redcoat side. Taxation.......one of a liberals favorite words. I didn't know all Christians were members of the 700 Club. |

He's right!! We need to get rid of the criminal gov't that allowed this, the democratic mayor of N.O. The buck started there, was ignored there, was pocketed there, and quickly passed from there.
