i watch SA footy all the time on SKY. usually at a national level, Paraguay and Columbia are great, but watching Brazil and Argentina...they are in a class of thier own. I dont rate Mexico much any more. They used to be one of the top teams in the world in the 70s and 80s, not so much these days though.

i like Croatia Zagreb too, there are so many good club teams in Europe.

Ya, Yurp is where it's at, except for Brazil and Argentina throwing a monkey wrench into things every 4 years or so at the WC. RoNALDOOOOO!! RivALDOOO!! (Or whomever the one-word sensation of the moment is )

MP, you're right - Mex used to be something, tho' they weren't too shabby in '98 WC. At least they had cool jerseys then. LOL!

Anyone see the Lyon (France) game on FSC yesterday? I don't recall the guys name, but he made a HELL of a free kick goal. One of the best I've seen in a long time.

Yeah Brasil may win the WC, Holland is currently 2nd of the world......who knows who knows. AND it's in germany, that will add some spice to the dutch players and fans......

I'd put Italia and Spain in the running for the World Cup as well.
Possibly even Portugal too.

And what's the deal with the names all starting with an "R" and ending with an "o"? Is it a tradition there or just coincidence? I'm confused.

In Scotland - Hibernian.

Been a Spurs fan since 1970 when they were managed by the legendary Bill Nick and have supported (suffered !) ever since.
In those days, Spurs played beautiful football.

I follow Scottish football but it's usually only contested between 2 teams and perhaps one other.

So who do you support ?

Green Bay Packers. Go Pack Go.
University of Michigan Wolverines.

I'm a moderate football fan... I like KRC Genk (Belgium), Feyenoord (Holland), Schalke04 (Germany), Glasgow Celtic (Scotland), Spurs (England). I usually dislike the big money clubs like Real, Man U, Bayern,...

Since our crappy Belgium team didn't make it to the worldcup I'll support our Dutch cousins. Hup Oranje!
Second choice for me would be England, third Germany.

I'm sure most of them are, but you remember Euro cup 2000 right? I know you didn't have any real trouble in Holland, but according to many observers that was because the English supporters had been puffing away in the coffeeshops, which sort of mellowed them down
But Brussels and Charlerloi looked like a battlefield...I had good fun though.

The best fun I had was when the Irish and especially the Scots had to play in Brussels for the Euro qualification. Although they lost there was no trouble at all, just boozing. Thousands of kilts in Brussels, that's unforgetable!

Brazilians' complete names are usually a bit of a mouthfull, so they like to use nicknames...

Like Pele's full name is Edson Arantes do Nascimento.
Ronaldo: Luiz Nazario de Lima Ronaldo

etc...

Yeah, I knew his full name, but at least his nickname was a bit more original than the "R_____o" thing.

On your other posts, the best things about Belgique is the beer (YaY!) and the cyclocrossin' (w00t! w00t!)

Beer n' Mud, Served Cold - it works for me!

(...don't forget that guy named Merckx...and one Museeuw. See my avatar. )
