Given that my performance has significantly gone up as I dropped weight, I'm assuming that the level of glycogen depletion that I've had is not a problem, correct?

I would guess if you dropped 30 lbs in 2 months your performance would improve on account of not having the extra weight to pull. Maybe you have a yet to be diagnosed illness that's accelerating the weight loss. A grim thought but entirely possible...

It's funny you should say that.... many years ago after a car accident and was laid up for months, I lost most of my muscle mass and put on a lot of fat, ( went from 155 to 203). I started working out and watching what I ate. I dropped in weight so fast and for so long that my wife thought I may have cancer and said I should be checked out. Needless to say that wasn't the case.

I don't think what I've done is out of the norm. I hear a lot of people say that you lose a lot of water weight when you first diet. I don't know what that means, except that people losing way more than the accepted 2 lbs/wk is not odd.

@Wilmar

Funny that you mentioned the weight issue and water issue. I left for a car trip to Memphis that lasted 14 hours. In those 14 hours I consumed 60 ounces of liquids (coffee mainly) instead of my usual 80 something. I left for the trip weighing 192 pounds. I ate very little while driving so to minimize stops.
Once I got to destination, and after a healthy two hour nap, I drank 36 ounces of varous liquids, in addition with various cookies -free at the Hampton Inn - 4 bananas, dinner consisting in 4 pieces of chicken - or a whole chicken, 6 brownies , 24 ounces of beer, 12 ounces of whine, about a 1000 calories on brownies, 48 ounces of coffee.
Next day it was breakfast time at the hotel - included I mind you- where I consumed another 32 ounces of coffee, half dozen of scrambled eggs, two bagels, 12 sausage patties, 2 bowls of rice crispies, 2 cinnamon rolls, and half a pound of fruit salad with 24 ounces of yogurt.
Lunch consisted on a large burger and fries.
Dinner was the wedding party. 14 pieces of sushi roll - with wasabi -, some 6 nondescritp samosas - greasy - , and then dinner.
Next day another breakfast barrage followed, followed of another 14 hours of driving pretty much fasting all the way back except for another 60 ounces of cofee and two bags of potato chips.
No bike riding in those days, probably barely spending 1200 calories
Guess what happened. Without any noticeable increase in size, I weighed 198 pounds at the scale AFTER moving my bowels.
Bottom line = a 3 to 5 percent of bodyweight after eating like a pig all weekend long is something that happens. Dont obsess with the small increments in weight and concentrate in eating and drinking properly. And also in all probabilities I was dehidrated on the way to Memphis - due the riding and commuting - and all that sitting down and eating time resulted in some rehidration and rebuild of very tired muscles.

And my wife calls me "The Machinist"
