EPO not illegal, but rather controlled. In other words, its not like crack cocaine which is illegal to have no matter what, but EPO can be prescribed by a doctor for illness. If you have a prescription you can use it, if you don't then it is illegal. It's usually used by people who have cancer and are on chemo or otherwise have some problem producing enough red blood cells. It is of course quite unethical to use it (or prescribe it) for another purpose than a legitimate illness and can be dangerous to your health if used improperly. Too much can make your blood too thick to properly circulate.

EPO is a prescription injection in the U.S.

The funny thing is that at least half the items one finds in a typical GNC cannot be sold over the counter in France.

Hence the reason I don't shop there or for any bodybuilding supplements at all. You don't know what is in those "supplements" to begin with (if the same company makes steroids there could be cross contamination), they are not regulated as tightly as food or medication.

Firms that manufacture steroids, EPO, and/or other products that are subjected to pharmaceutical standards are not typically in the food supplement business.

Supplement companies are 'blenders' that buy, mix, and repackage, and are regulated as food items. Whether they got the proportions correct is the largest potential source of error.

When in doubt, mix your own.

I went into GNC to buy some supplements back in the day. When I realized that the guy selling me this was much less informed than I, I had second thoughts. "This is what you need.... but if you take that, you'll need these to keep your hands from shaking... and if you get those you'll need these to keep you regular."

Very scary that the guy telling me "what I need" may not even have a high school degree... let alone pharmaceutical degree.

hey mister, how about you lean down from that high horse you seem to be on and read my posts. if you squint really really hard you might be able to see that i haven't said there aren't dopers on the tour. in fact, regardless of my personal beliefs, i haven't even said LA is clean. i just stated that, for the sake of those of us who have to read your posts, you might want to try and make them somewhat relevant to the topic at hand and not view every thread as an opportunity to preach about the evils of the pelaton.
