imho the only way to beat him is to get a couple guys that can latch onto the disco train and then try and kill LA once the train runs out of gas. launching early just means that you are all on your own while LA sits in the backseat getting pulled up the mtn until the boosters come off the rocket and he is gone.
but..as someone stated earlier, vino, ullrich, et all didn't lose because they talk too much or are heartless. lance and his team are just really really good. being the second best rider in the world is pretty dang impressive. they have just had the misfortune of running into arguably the best/most prepared TDF rider in history. and the back window of a car. lol. |

I always recall the words of Hinault "attack, attack and attack again".
That is what the greats all did and would do : make it hard for your opponent regardless. That way at least you go down fighting and you make your opponent have to work harder for his victory. |

The trash talk is irrealevent to performance, but is interesting to follow. I'm merely frustrated that some think that whatever Vino says before the race is reason to call him "a joke." Yeah, he had a bad day, but he's not a joke.

Interesting that Vino said the first cimb was too early to attack... It would have been interesting to see him put in a few hard attacks on the first climb is disrupt that Discovery led pace. Or attack hard and early on the second climb to upset the pace. Clearly Vino didn't have it today, but Discovery didn't know that. If Vino didn't attack because he wanted to hang on until the finish, then he's riding for himself, not Telekom. Ullrich did not look good today. I imagine he is suffering from crashes. Ulle often comes back in the second half. We'll see how he looks then. Kloden clearly sacrificed himself to pace JU to the line today.

I agree completely. I don't know what happened to Vino today, but it wasn't in line with his recent performances. He didn't look like a joke racing up Mt. Ventoux in the Libere. |

I don't think it would have been wise to try to attack on the first climb, as the distance between the ascents would have allowed Disco to easily bring him back before the last climb. In his post race comments, Vino said he was gassed after the first climb, and then quickly ran out of steam as the second one began . . . makes me think that he had no choice as to whether to attack -- he simply was not able today. |

Poor Vino. Now that he has been kicked and battered by the DC team, and he has openly professed that DC is the only other team worthy of his affiliation next year, what will TM offer him, since Vino wouldn't think of going to lesser teams?
At a minimum, this will teach Vino the need to be humble. As much as JU has failed to unseat LA, JU is in a much better position to do so than Vino ever could be, crash or no crash. At least today, kloden was helping JU up the climb, according to the TM website. |

Maybe now is a good time for me to ask, why is Vino wearing a different color jersey than the rest of the TMobile squad? Sorry if this is a dumb question

Riders who win their national road race titles, can wear their national champions jersey's in the grand tours : Vino won the Kazahkstan title a few weeks back. |

You must disturb easily. One of the reasons a forum exsists is to inform. Cycling is a complex sport with many traditions. In the last 25 years cycling has gone from a tight European sport to a international sport. So when a cycling fan asks a obvious question , I think it deserves a respectable answer. Which Limerickman did. Thanks Limerickman. |

that's still no excuse to not look up the national championship results a week before the tour started. Oh well, the tour once again rules over everything else. |

Quickly...who finished second to Vino in his national championship? No internet searches permitted. I doubt that you looked at the results of his national championship prior to the tour. You probably heard Phil and Paul mention it on the air (as they have done so many times). Not every person has the same level of interest or fanaticism for cycling that you may possess and answering the same question a few times is probably taking very little time out of your busy cycling research schedule. |
